There have been some very high quality showcase events as of late. The David Barns Showcase, the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250, the Flight Hankamp Open Runs, the Hankamp Hoops Open Run, and Let’s Get Ready V were all outstanding events that featured some top tier talent.
[player_tooltip player_id="244260" first="Maya" last="Anderson"] (2024, Cass Tech)
Anderson was at the Flight Hankamp Open Run as well as the Top 250. She was lights out at both. Anderson is one of the more physically skilled players in the state. She has the strength and ball handling skills of an elite player. Anderson has no limit on her shooting range.
[player_tooltip player_id="307483" first="Paris" last="Bass"] (2023, Wayne Memorial)
Bass sent a message at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250. She was incredibly creative with the ball, creating opportunities for herself as well as drawing the D and opening up teammates. Bass might have one of the top mid range games in the state.
[player_tooltip player_id="147785" first="Kalin" last="Bates"] (2022, CG)
I was very impressed with Bates at the Flight Hankamp Open Run. Her jumper from behind the arc is nothing short of a weapon. Bates looks lined up for a big senior season.
[player_tooltip player_id="194462" first="Kara" last="Bartels"] (2022, Zeeland West)
Bartels was at the first Flight Hankamp Open Run and looked like a premier power forward in the state of Michigan. Her footwork on both ends was tremendous and she has a nice touch on the ball.
[player_tooltip player_id="335982" first="Zion" last="Belcher-Arill"] (2025,
Belcher-Arill has to be one of the top freshman in the state. She’s incredibly versatile for a freshman. She can influence a game from anywhere on the court and can probably defend all 5 positions.
[player_tooltip player_id="189309" first="Kynnedy" last="Brown"] (2023, Kalamazoo Central)
Brown was tremendous at the first Flight Hankamp Open Run.She played very well at a fast pace and pushed the ball with the pass off of rebounds. Brown was solid shooting the ball from deep as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="147769" first="Tadassa" last="Brown"] (2022, Brooklyn Columbia Central)
It was great to see Brown at the second Flight Hankamp Open Run. As expected, her defense is light years ahead of most. It feels like she at least alters almost every shot close to the rim. Brown’s offensive game was much more well rounded than you can see on videos.
[player_tooltip player_id="189293" first="Faith" last="Carson"] (2023, Buchanan)
Carson has made some real strides in the last month or so. Her speed and quickness was lightyears ahead of where she was during grassroots season. When an elite player makes positive changes.....WATCH OUT.
[player_tooltip player_id="189289" first="Makenna" last="Clement"] (2023, Lake Fenton)
I just watched Clement at Let’s Get Ready V and I cane away thoroughly impressed. She moves very well for a 4 and is a grinder in the paint which helps her pick up high percentage looks at the rim. Clement is big time on the glass and on the defensive end.
[player_tooltip player_id="244300" first="Tayla" last="Dillard"] (2024, Kalamazoo Central)
Dillard was a star at Let’s Get Ready V. She could put the ball on the floor and create at any time and was also a huge threat with herjumper. Dillard is a very solid 2 way player.
[player_tooltip player_id="189281" first="McKenna" last="Ferguson"] (2023, Byron Center)
Ferguson impressed in basically all facets of the game at the Flight Hankamp Open Run as well as at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250. Her game has grown and expanded a ton over the last year or so.
[player_tooltip player_id="244305" first="Hailey" last="Freshcorn"] (2024, Onsted)
There might not be a harder worker in the state. Freshcorn was at almost all of these showcases, showing that she’s always ready to compete and improve. She’s a true lead guard that can play both pass first and score first styles.
[player_tooltip player_id="331766" first="Aliyah" last="Hershberger"] (2023, Concord)
Hershberger really impressed me at the Hankamp Hoops Open Run. She was dynamic on offense, scoring from so many different spots in a variety of ways. From deep 3’s to finishing at the rim, she was always a threat.
[player_tooltip player_id="190186" first="Morganne" last="Houk"] (2023, Plymouth Christian Academy)
Houk has always been a terrific shooter from beyond the arc, but she has obviously worked to expand her offensive game. At Flight Hankamp, she scored from mid range and attacked the basket and finished at the rim.
[player_tooltip player_id="244311" first="Faith" last="Jungwirth"] (2024, Okemos)
I’ma huge supporter of Jungwirth’s game and overall potential. There wasn’t anyone that had a better day at the first Flight Hankamp Open Run and had another great performance at the Top 250. She’s strong and phyical, leading to tons of good looks at the rim. Jungwirth picks up tons of extra possessions for her team with her work on the offensive glass.
[player_tooltip player_id="189306" first="Liv" last="Linden"] (2023, Hartland)
If I was a college coach, I’d offer Linden yesterday. She was terrific at Flight Hankamp, the Top 250, and Let’s Get Ready V. Linden is a leader through and through. She can handle the ball and create for herself and her teammates off the bounce. Linden can always be counted on to keep her teammates involved.
[player_tooltip player_id="335976" first="Zar’ria" last="Mitchell"] (2023, Saginaw Heritage)
Mitchell is such a dynamic player. She was at multiple events and impressed every time. Mitchell is a walking bucket that can get a look pretty much whenever she wants one. She might have the best step back jumper in Michigan.
[player_tooltip player_id="324080" first="Ella" last="Mohamed"] (2025, Northridge)
Mohamed was outstanding at the Hankamp Hoops Open Run. Mohamed’s physical strength, combined with her ball skills and basketball IQ, are more than impressive. She’s an influence on both ends of the floor and has an instinct and feel for the game that’s rare.
[player_tooltip player_id="177354" first="Kyndra" last="Sheets"] (2024, Columbia City)
Sheets might have been the top defender at the Hankamp Hoops Open Run. She constantly disrupted the offense and created turnovers by jumping the passing lanes.
[player_tooltip player_id="244230" first="Brook" last="Simpson"] (2024, Belding)
The Flight Hankamp Open Run and the Top 250 made it easy to see why she’s a high level national recruiting target. She’s so efficient, yet explosive, with the ball in her hands. Simpson will be a Miss Basketball candidate in the future.
[player_tooltip player_id="331769" first="Kendal" last="Taylor"] (2023, Concord)
I really liked what I saw from Taylor at the Hankamp Hoops Open Run. She’s an old fashioned back to the basket post player. Taylor does a nice job establishing position early and has a nice spin move from the right block.
[player_tooltip player_id="244317" first="Bri" last="Thomas"] (2024, Trenton)
I LOVE what Thomas brings to the floor and she was a joy to watch at the Flight Hankamp Open Run as well as at the Top 250. She’s a terrific shooter that can get it up over top of most defenders. Thomas constantly moves without the ball and puts a lot of pressure on the defense with that movement. She brings that same energy to the defensive end.
[player_tooltip player_id="178886" first="Deyonce" last="Thompson"] (2022, East Kentwood)
Thompson was lights out at Let’s Get Ready V. She proved to be almost unstoppable in isolation (no surprise that she won the King of the Hill competition). A lot of college coach’s eyes should be on Thompson this high school season.
[player_tooltip player_id="147748" first="Hannah" last="Toutant"] (2022, Macomb Dakota)
Toutant’s upside is tremendous. She was at both Flight Hankamp Open Runs as well as the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250. At every event, she was one of the top post players in the building. Toutant proved that she can go toe to toe with any post player.
[player_tooltip player_id="338899" first="Zoe" last="Willems"] (2024, Bethany)
Willems flaunted an impressive offensive game at the Hankamp Hoops Open Run. She made plays in the open floor and seemed to always find lanes to the rim. Willems always protected the ball and rarely, if ever, turned it over despite being so aggressive cutting to the rim.
