Monday, we updated our list for the Class of 2025. It expanded from 100 prospects to 125 prospects, and while there was some movement throughout the rankings, the Top-10 remained somewhat similar as a whole. At this time, I wanted to highlight those ten young ladies, as each should have a major impact on their high school team this coming season.
You have to watch Jaylah multiple times to truly appreciate everything she brings to the floor. She can contribute in a number of different ways, so she might be most effective as a scorer one game, a distributor the next, then be the best rebounder and defender the third time you see her. She has nice length, an athletic frame, and a real smoothness to her play. She can act as a point forward and create offense, but she can also score the ball at a high level herself, whether it’s around the perimeter or to the rim. She also plays with great effort.
Kira is another elite level talent, and she can take over a game around the paint. She has great length, an athletic frame, and she runs the floor well and moves somewhat effortlessly for a front-liner. On the block, she can use her speed, quickness, and athleticism to “out-quick” defenders trying to guard her. She also has a nice mid-post game, where she can shoot over or attack defenders off the bounce, depending on how they play her. Defensively, she rotates to “help” well, blocks a lot of shots, and she’s a very good pursuing rebounder.
Maya has great height and tremendous length for a wing prospect, and she’s able to create mismatches because of it. She is a very good perimeter shooter who has quickened her release over the past couple of seasons, so she needs little time or space to get shots away. She’s starting to see noticeable strength increases, so I anticipate she’ll develop into more of a multilevel scorer over the next couple of seasons. That should open up her perimeter game even more. I also think she can become a nice “help-side” defender because of her length.
Laila unfortunately missed the entire 2021-2022 high school season due to a knee injury, but she returned to the court during the Spring and Summer grassroots season. She is a strong, physical point guard, with a nice toughness for the position. As the grassroots season progressed, you could start to see her regain her burst, so this Winter opponents who are unfamiliar with her will likely be caught off-guard. Laila also understands the game, knows when to create, when to shoot/score, and when to bring the energy/intensity defensively.
Addison had a good Spring and an even better July. She has steadily grown throughout the last few years, but she’s starting to get stronger, absorb contact better, and get through the lane to finish around the rim at a higher rate. She’s a heady/savvy lead guard, she sees the floor well, has a tight and shifty handle, and just plays with a natural feel for the position. I also felt like Addison shot the ball more consistently this Summer, and she defended with a lot more grit and physicality than in the past. She just continues to improve.
Highlights
Meredith is the epitome of tough-nosed, hard-working, and gritty. She plays with a tremendous motor, is always battling at both ends of the floor, but she is also highly skilled and understands how to play. She can handle the ball, create offense for herself or teammates, and she can finish at the basket in a variety of ways. She also has touch around the perimeter and can get really hot at times. Defensively, she’s willing to mix it up and play with physicality, but she’s also able to sit down in a stance and defend smaller, quicker guards.
The amount of growth Avery has shown over the last two years, both physically and in her game, have been tremendous. She is a big, strong, and physical post prospect who is simply hard to match up with. She has great length at her size, good hands, and solid footwork. She runs the floor hard, keeps the ball high when she catches it, and she’s starting to be much more instinctual on the catch around the basket. Defensively, she just clogs the lane, protects the rim, and does a nice job of blocking out on each shot attempt.
Monique plays with one of the best nonstop motors I’ve seen. She just flat out competes at both ends of the floor every possession. In addition to all of that, she is also one of the best run-and-jump athletes in Indiana’s 2025 class. She has good length, a wiry-strong, athletic frame, and she continues to work at and build her skillset. She is probably more of a mid-post ‘4’ right now, as she likes to work the elbows and the short corners/baseline. But she has the athletic ability to be a wing long-term. She can defend multiple positions as well.
Gabby is a really nice combo guard prospect who is difficult to label as either a ‘1’ or a ‘2’, because she can play either position equally well. She has a wiry-strong frame, some length, and she’s a nice athlete in most directions. With the ball in her hands, she can break down a defender, get into the lane, and find teammates. She can also score it at the basket herself, and she can create space outside to shoot. Off the ball, she is an effective scorer coming off of screens. Defensively, she can take on a variety of different types of guards and wings.
A year ago, Leah was one of the more physically intimidating, powerful, and assertive low-block power forwards in Indiana. Now, though, she has put in the time and noticeably improved her all-around game and skillset. She is starting to shoot the basketball from the perimeter a little bit, but she’s great at about 15 to 17-feet. She’s also handling it some in transition and able to make dribble-moves against pressure. Her ability at her size to break down a defender and get to the rim to finish is impressive. She’s also becoming a versatile defender.
