We’ll take a look at some of the players that I noticed in regards to their ball handling at the Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Top 250.

Meredith was terrific with the basketball in her hands. She was so fast with the ball and it created issues for the defense. Meredith showed the ability to beat the defense to the other end of the floor with it in her hands.
Dixon was impressive in what she could do with the ball. She put it on the floor and had some athletic moves in the process. Dixon used a very impressive left to right crossover move.
Ward made a statement at the Top 250 with her ball handling. She used these talents to attack and break down the defense. Ward’s skill with the ball led directly to buckets for herself and her teammates.
Wallace turned heads for many reasons, with her ball handling skills definitely being 1 of them. She was silky smooth with the ball and could change direction very easily, even when on the move. Wallace’s ball skills made her a very tough cover.
Montgomery showed some nice handles at the Top 250. She moved easily and freely with the ball in her hands. Montgomery was consistently able to get to the next level off the bounce and make plays from there.
Linden just looked so comfortable when the ball was in her hands. From her play at the Top 250, she looks like she will be a top notch primary ball handler in the state next high school season. Linden is smart and efficient when putting the ball on the floor.
Burley made the most her handles at the event by keeping thing short and sweet. She got the ball, made quick and decisive moves with the ball, and attacked from there. This really allowed Burley to attack without the danger of a turnover.
Highlights
Sain will be one of the most dangerous players in the state when the ball is in her hands by the time it’s all said and done. She’s a playmaker with the rock. Sain changes direction on a dime and moves the ball easily with her.
I always knew that Thelen could handle the ball, but she showed us a little something extra at the Top 250. She showed that she could handle the ball with some flash and flare as well. Thelen had the look of a very athletic ball handler.
Highlights
I said it before and I’ll say it again. Washington basically did everything at a high level at the event. She was so smart with the ball, but was still able to flaunt some nasty moves with the ball. Washington was seen shaking her defender and drawing fouls.
Standfest showed that we can add ball handling to the list of strengths to her game. I saw her put the ball on the floor and lead the break at the event. It’s just another tool on an already stacked tool belt.
Jackson was one of the most improved players that I saw at the Top 250. Her ball handling has always been solid, but it was a flat out weapon in Grand Rapids. Jackson was so fast with the ball and consistently beat defenders down the floor.
Highlights
Mackey was athletic with her handles and seemed to always be able to attack off the bounce. There was never a wasted dribble, as everything went straight at the rim.
Kyles turned heads in the gym last weekend with her ability to put the ball on the floor. She showed off a left to right crossover and scored. Kyles followed that up with a double cross that allowed her to blow by her defender.
A lot of times ball handling is made effective by making smart decisions with the ball. That was Steele in a nutshell. She was efficient with the ball, didn’t waste dribbles, and got the ball where it needed to go.
Thelen was impressive when she had the ball in her hands. She was quick and decisive with both where she went with the ball and what she wanted to do with it.
Hauffe has a lot of upside when it comes to her ball handling. This could be a very real strength. She’s more of a 2 guard but she can handle the ball incredibly efficiently and could be an excellent secondary ball handler.
Highlights
Hartwick quite simply was one of the best and most dynamic ball handlers in the gym in Grand Rapids. She kept her turnover numbers low and seemed to always be able to break down her defender and create for herself and her teammates off the bounce.
Highlights
Liggins is going to make a lot of plays off the bounce over the course of the next 4 years. She can do some very nice things with the ball like going behind her back to change direction and keep her defender guessing.
