The featured image is of [player_tooltip player_id='486538' first='Trinity' last='Wilburn'] (2026) of Faith Christian High School.

With the 2022-2023 season having concluded a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to take the time to offer up a handful of awards based on how everyone in Class 1A performed during the 2022-2023 season. As it specifically concerns the All-State teams, my decision was an equal-parts judgement call that factored in a combination of skill, ability, individual statistics, and team success from this specific season. With regards to the Freshman class (2026), I created a specific All-State team and Freshman of the Year award to honor them, so you won't see Freshmen in any additional groupings other than Honorable Mention All-State. At the end of the day, this is simply an attempt to honor girls who I thought stood out this season in Class 1A.

.

TOP CLASS 1A AWARDS

These postseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I thought stood out in Class 1A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debatable, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled the description the best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.

Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='178241' first='Bailey' last='Parham'], 2023, 6-0 C, Tri H.S.
- The meaning of most valuable player to me leans more towards the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. Bailey joined a rather experienced group as a Freshman in 2019-2020, but she still managed to lead them in scoring and rebounding. Now, by the end of her high school career, she has amassed more than 1300 points and nearly 1000 rebounds. She has dealt with injuries in the past, but this year she was able to step up in a big way, helping to lead the Lady Titans to the Class 1A Final Four and a 26-2 record. She is headed to the University of Illinois-Springfield, where she will likely continue her double-double ways.

Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='59779' first='Bailey' last='Tabeling'], 2023, 5-10 G, Trinity Lutheran H.S.
- As opposed to the most valuable player award, the most outstanding player award points at simply the best basketball player in all of Class 1A, regardless of team quality, depth etc. Trinity Lutheran is a good program, and Bailey has managed to shine for four years for the Lady Cougars. She is long, fluidly athletic, and highly skilled around the perimeter. She is graduating with a career average of 20.8 points per game, while totaling more than 2200 career points, more than 650 career rebounds, and more than 450 career assists. She currently resides at #23 on our overall list of 2023 prospects, and she is headed to play at Division-I Ohio University.

Most Improved Player: [player_tooltip player_id='572809' first='Julia' last='Meyer'], 2024, 5-10 W, Jac-Cen-Del H.S.
- Julia somewhat came out of nowhere to be arguably the biggest contributor this season for the Regional champion Lady Eagles. After averaging 2.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and just 1.0 assist per game as a Sophomore, this long and fluid wing took off in her third year, contributing 13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Not only did she prove to be a much more effective scorer for Jac-Cen-Del, but she also found ways to get other teammates involved, while still attacking the glass and helping to create turnovers defensively. Julia also showed a much greater capability of knocking down perimeter jumpers (19-58, 33%), which should only improve with more work.

Comeback Player of the Year: [player_tooltip player_id='177322' first='Kenzie' last='Fulks'], 2024, 5-6 G, Bethesda Christian H.S.
- The Comeback Player of the Year award tends to either go to someone who has dealt with an injury, or who essentially took a year off and returned to action. In Kenzie's case, she unfortunately suffered a severe knee injury during July of 2022. She missed most of the 2022-2023 season but returned to action January 12th, and she was outstanding come tournament time. In her first six games back, all regular season games, she averaged 9.2 points per game, but by their three postseason games, she returned to form, averaging 24.0 points per game, along with 7.7 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game in the tourney. It will be fun to again see her in action this Spring & Summer.

Most Outstanding Freshman: [player_tooltip player_id='486509' first='Maya' last='Layton'], 2026, 5-7 G, Faith Christian H.S.
- Maya entered high school with a couple of Division-I offers and a great deal of expectations, and this year she didn't disappoint. She is extremely long, fluidly athletic, and she has a natural feel for the game. Offensively, she makes plays off the bounce, creates for herself and teammates, and she greatly improved her shooting as the season wore on, finishing with 57 made 3-pointers at a 33% rate. That should continue to improve as she gains more strength and keeps getting reps in. Defensively is where she can be special, as she does a nice job of using her length to bother passing lanes, getting a number of steals/deflections, but she's also a quick-footed on-ball defender.

.

ADDITIONAL CLASS 1A AWARDS

Toughest Player: [player_tooltip player_id='59789' first='Linzie' last='Wernert'], 2023, Lanesville H.S.
Best Motor: [player_tooltip player_id='326492' first='Mariah' last='Stoltzfus'], 2024, Bethany Christian H.S.
Best Shooter: Kaibre Stephan, 2023, Randolph Southern H.S.
Best Scorer: [player_tooltip player_id='59779' first='Bailey' last='Tabeling'], 2023, Trinity Lutheran H.S.
Best Passer: [player_tooltip player_id='486527' first='Carly' last='Davison'], 2026, Clinton Central H.S.
Best Rebounder: [player_tooltip player_id='572800' first='Hannah' last='Holmes'], 2024, Northfield H.S.
Best Shot-Blocker: [player_tooltip player_id='59752' first='Kendall' last='Hale'], 2023, Cannelton H.S.
Best Defender: [player_tooltip player_id='486538' first='Trinity' last='Wilburn'], 2026, Faith Christian H.S.
Best Athlete: [player_tooltip player_id='486538' first='Trinity' last='Wilburn'], 2026, Faith Christian H.S.
Most Versatile: [player_tooltip player_id='178238' first='Skylar' last='Bos'], 2023, DeMotte Christian H.S.

.

CLASS 1A ALL-STATE TEAMS

Like the postseason awards (above), this was another attempt to honor girls who stood out in Class 1A during the 2022-2023 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it's at least easy to understand why each of the players listed below were selected to be honored. Disclaimer: Freshmen were only considered for the Freshman All-State Team, as well as for the Honorable Mention section.

.
 <!--
