Continue ReadingI would put Kyndal as the POY front runner right now. She showed no signs of slowing down during the the Super Games Showcase and the SGGC. Headed into the WCAC season each team will be geared up to try and stop her. January 16th will be a key game as all eyes will be glued in the see the 1 vs 2 point guard matchup in Forestville against Bishop McNamara. Another twenty plus double-double with a win may just seal the deal.
Highlights
Madisen has a fan base behind her as she has been a favorite since elementary school. An immensely talented player with a good outside shot and great vision, she can control a game without taking a shot. She is starting to attack more which is creating more opportunities at the line for her. With the talent that BMac has will she be needed to be that player every game or can she take games off? This years player of the year award will have to be taken as it’s not a given.
In most seasons Nyla would be a lock for the POY. This year with the competition it may come to wins she can generate for the Cardinal. Bishop Ireton has one of the best teams that I’ve ever seen from them and Nyla is one of the top players in the nation, the voters will undoubtedly look at the fact that she is just a junior. Should that matter, I don’t think she should but people are funny. Barring Ireton sweeping the WCAC to a championship game it will be surprising to see her with the trophy this year.
Laura has the size, skill and political backing to win the award. The Panthers falling to LIL by 70 and having a losing record doesn’t help her cause. Laura is a longshot for POY but she still has a shot. If we have learned anything over the years it is to never underestimate Scott Allen and the system.
Caliyah is in a position to write her own box score. It is going to be interesting to see her up against those other point guards that are just as hungry. The Falcons have a solid lineup but the depth is in question. Can she give 32 hard minutes on Tuesday and comeback Friday for 32 more with the same energy? If that answer is yes and she can lock up the other contenders somewhat then throw her in the hat of contenders.
Emma has the capability to put up major numbers worthy of POY consideration, so does a couple of other players on her team. The Roadrunners seem to be going with the scoring by committee philosophy and some hockey style substitutions so each game could see a new star emerge. Great for team depth and the long game but will make a POY run difficult even if they run the table.
