Saturday, Prep Girls Hoops Indiana held its annual Freshman Showcase to help identify several of the state's top Freshmen. With 90 prospects from the 2028 class in attendance, this provided an opportunity to see them compete head-to-head, as well as together, in a combination of 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games. Below is a look at six ladies who I felt stood out the most when I was able to see them. This is not a ranking of the top six prospects in attendance, as much as it is the six who I felt played the best in a limited sample size of parts of two to three games seen at most. We will have additional articles later this week highlighting every prospect who was in attendance.

Leanah is an extremely long and wiry guard with a lot of speed, quickness, and the ability to change directions at a moment's notice. She has an incredibly quick first step that is difficult to defend, plus she manages to avoid most contact. She looks like she could still grow multiple inches, and as she adds strength to her frame, the consistency in her game should only improve. She also has plenty of talent to develop into a terrific on-ball defender.

Hillary is a really nice, long, athletic, versatile wing. Offensively, she can play a point forward role, push it in transition, and create offense by getting downhill. She is developing touch outside, but she also looks strong in the mid-post, where she can knock down the 15-footer or attack from there. Defensively, she can take on bigger guards and wings off the bounce, she can defend undersized forwards, plus she is a really nice pursuing rebounder with a nose for the ball.

At showcase events, you often see kids who bring a ton of energy stand out. Sawyor was one of those kids. She was constantly flying around the floor, talking, and engaged when she was on the bench. She has nice length at her height, speed and quickness, plus a little bounce to her step. She plays with her head up, can find open teammates, and she is a capable creator/shooter as well. She could pair nicely with [player_tooltip player_id='486559' first='Maryrose' last='Felling'] (2026) in the TC backcourt this Winter.

Between her grassroots team and her high school team, Delaney had a big Spring and Summer. She is a really nice athlete with length and wiry strength. While she has the reputation of being a knockdown shooter, she is starting to show an improved handle, awareness, and the ability to run offense and create for others. With her athleticism and the threat to knock down jumpers consistently, becoming a PG would help her be an incredibly dangerous threat.

Riley entered the event Saturday already receiving a lot of attention via social media and from college programs. What I saw at this event was her improved handle and ability to run and create offense. She has always been a capable shooter, and she works tirelessly on her skill development, so her ball skill has been up to par, but playing more of a creative role instead of that of a wing shooter was fun to see. Defending elite PGs at the Varsity level this Winter will help as well.

To me at least, Maddy has sort of an "old school" PG game. She uses her strong frame and length to give her advantages. She plays with patience and purpose, dissects the defense, and she has very good vision and the ability to find teammates through small windows. She has really nice touch outside if people play off of her, and she is willing to be physical at either end of the floor. She is highly skilled, so being able to defend water-bug PGs will be key for her.
