Prep Girls Hoops took in the opening day of games at the Battle of the Lowcountry at Palmetto Christian Academy in Mount Pleasant. Let's take at some Observations from our day in attendance here. SUBSCRIBE today as the coverage is only going to heat up with the season starting. Use the passcode "Swanny30" at checkout to save 30% off your first billing cycle. #RecruitThePalmettoState

Bengals Have New Coach and New Faces:

The Lucy Beckham HS Lady Bengals have a new head coach in Jared Curry this season. Curry was previously an assistant coach for the program. Athena Davis and Reagan Black both transferred in this season. Davis previously attended the school but was at Marietta HS (GA) last season. Athena plays her game to the fullest around the paint area. She really plays to the ball and constantly is in position to make a play on the ball. Black made the move over from Bishop England. [player_tooltip player_id='378102' first='Molly' last='Seifert'] is not playing basketball this season and [player_tooltip player_id='258559' first='Annabelle' last='Cox'] made the move over to nearby Wando HS. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='378101' first='Logan' last='Collins'] who left for Stall HS midway through the season last year is back with the Lady Bengals.

Small forward [player_tooltip player_id='1060696' first='Lindsey' last='Meslow'] had a solid opening game with 19 points. The left-handed Meslow a sophomore was able to connect on some jumpers all day long.

[player_tooltip player_id='1047359' first='Charlotte' last='Newkirk'] an all-region performer from a season ago finished with 10 points in the win today. Newkirk was really able to knockdown some mid-range jumpers along the baseline here today.

[player_tooltip player_id='1047361' first='Sidney' last='Miller'] brings toughness and grit to the floor with her play. Sidney really lacks a true position on the floor, but you can surely count on her to chase down every loose ball.

The Lady Bengals will certainly surprise some teams this season along the way.

Home-School Duo:

[player_tooltip player_id='1060700' first='Gabriella' last='Miller'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1060701' first='Caroline' last='McGee'] both play with the Lowcountry Wildcats. The home-school based program held their own vs Lucy Beckham HS before falling 40-36. Miller connected on 5 three-pointers and scored 15 points today. Gabrielle has a quick shot release from behind the arc. McGee a hard-working post player spent a lot of the game on the deck chasing down rebounds and loose balls. Caroline brought the ball up the floor at times today in transition. McGee left every bit of energy on the floor here today for the Lowcountry Wildcats.

Can the Lady Landsharks Make a Run in Class 3A?:

Oceanside Collegiate Academy cruised in the opener here tonight vs North Charleston. The Lady Landsharks have just two seniors on the roster. [player_tooltip player_id='496223' first='Ella' last='Mae Schepp'] and [player_tooltip player_id='390983' first='Teagan' last='Scott'] both have found colleges for next season. Schepp will attend the University of West Florida (NCAA D2) and Scott will go to Clemson to play Lacrosse.

Schepp a left-handed guard was able to score on some jumpers and layups her today. Scott has great footwork and was in constant communication with her teammates all game long. She collected rebounds and really understands on how to make a move to the ball and manufacture points on just out hustling defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='688841' first='Henley' last='Hanks'] and [player_tooltip player_id='496228' first='Josie' last='Hanks'] anchor down the backcourt with [player_tooltip player_id='688645' first='Ella' last='Hunter']. The Hanks sisters both can play multiple positions in the backcourt. Hunter provides a perimeter threat at times. [player_tooltip player_id='932684' first='Lauren' last='Hagmeyer'] plays hard around the basket and has no problems mixing it up and battling. Lauren really brings good athleticism to the floor.

This Oceanside College Academy team really likes to share the ball and seem to enjoy playing with each other. Every kid really understands their role for Head Coach Mandy Harrison.

Suddeth Sisters Score Double-Doubles:

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='255967' first='Cokey' last='Suddeth'] dropped 19 points and 12 rebounds today. Her younger sister [player_tooltip player_id='855803' first='Adelaide' last='Suddeth'] finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss today.

Lady Wildcats Ride 3 Guards to Victory:

[player_tooltip player_id='847614' first='Destiny' last='Ladson'], [player_tooltip player_id='633406' first='Emma' last='Elliott'] and Troi Watkins provided plenty of punch for the West Ashley HS Lady Wildcats last night in a victory. Ladson was able to connect on some floaters tonight. She really excelled in the transition game and collecting plenty of layups along the way.

Elliott played on and off the ball here today. She really looked to set up her teammates at times today with her unselfish play. Emma connected on some mid-range jumpers along with finishing at the rim with her left-hand.

Watkins was able to provide some good leadership at times today for the Lady Wildcats. She understood when to push the ball or set back and play in a half-court set.

Lady Hurricanes Have Size, Length and Solid Guards:

The First Baptist Lady Hurricanes have Size, Length and Solid Guards to make some noise this season in SCISA Class 4A. [player_tooltip player_id='451803' first='AVA' last='RUSH'] was able to collect buckets around the basket here today. She was able to alter and challenge shots on the defensive end of the floor. Rush who is ranked #4 in the 2026 Palmetto State Class can put the rock on the deck and drive to the basket at times. She connected on some elbow jumpers here today.

[player_tooltip player_id='387006' first='Dyarri' last='Braddick'] keeps improving every time we see her play. Braddick a left-handed post player stands at 6-foot 5 down in the paint. She does a great job of keeping the ball up over head after claiming it off the glass. Dyarri will challenge shots with her long wingspan. She has a soft touch around the bucket while the filling the lane in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='748211' first='Madison' last='Pojani'], [player_tooltip player_id='257989' first='Paige' last='Pouyat'] and [player_tooltip player_id='403039' first='Gabby' last='Moore'] all-round the starting 5 for the Lady Hurricanes. Pojani plays with a great deal of confidence with her game. She looks to shoot the rock at a pretty good clip from the floor. Madison can play both guard spots in the backcourt. Pouyat made the move back this off season after playing at Cathedral Academy and DME Academy (FL) last season.

Moore was able to focus on running the show here today for the Lady Hurricanes. Gabby finished with 5 points in the win.
