While January is a month where region play dominates the schedule, a number of teams still fit in time to bolster their non-region portions of their respective slates.

That was the case on Saturday afternoon as 5A Wando traveled to take on 4A Bishop England.

The Warriors entered Saturday's contest with only one blemish in 14 games – and that was against another highly formidable 4A assembling in Gray Collegiate on Dec. 23. Wando was ranked sixth in the most recent 5A Division 1 poll.

Bishop England also saw its name in the most 4A poll at eighth. The Bishops have only lost to one in-state opponent this season. That in-state opponent was these very Warriors on two occasions this season. The first was on Nov. 23 in a 52-36 decision and on Dec. 13 at Wando by a final of 56-40.

Would the Bishops finally reverse its fortunes against the Warriors? The answer was yes as Bishop England scored a riveting 57-51 victory over Wando.

Records

The win runs the record of the Bishops to 11-3 while the Warriors now stand at 13-2 roughly midway through the season.

Quarter-By-Quarter

A matchup of one of the best in 5A against one of the best in 4A resembled just that in the first quarter. Throughout said frame, it appeared that foul disparity would be a story as the first five personals were called against the Warriors. Wando was called for five fouls to Bishop England's three but where it counted showed a Bishops advantage of 14-12 with one complete.

Breaking a 16-16 stalemate, Bishop England caught a surge of momentum with a 7-0 run, prompting a timeout from Wando. As both teams entered their respective locker rooms to discuss second half strategy, the Bishops led the Warriors by a margin of 23-18.

It was advantage Bishop England for much of the third quarter as it pushed its edge into the double digits. Three quarters were in the books between two of the Lowcountry's premier teams with the Bishops leading Wando 39-25.

One had to expect that as good as the Warriors are that they would rally. Wando would trim its deficit back to single digits. The Warriors were within four late in the fourth quarter but Bishop England managed to play keep away which forced Wando to foul. When all was said and done, the Bishops got their first win in three tries over the Warriors this season.
