Monday kicked off the MHSAA Regional Semi-Final round, as District champions faced off, hoping for a win and an opportunity to secure a regional trophy on Wednesday. KLAA Conference champs Belleville (23-1) played SEC-Red champs Dexter (18-6) in the first game at Howell. The Tigers snuffed out any hopes of an upset early, turning the Dreds over with their all-out pressure, length, and athletic advantage. They jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first and stretched that margin to 21-6 going into the second quarter. The Tigers continued to force turnovers, knockdown open 3s, win the rebounding/finishing battle inside, and compound their lead by scoring transition runouts repeatedly.

Belleville kept the ball rolling in the second half, leading 68-33 after the third and finishing with a dominant 79-40 victory. Dexter is a very good team with multiple NAIA/D3 prospects. After seeing what they were able to do Monday, it appears the Tigers are going to be a wrecking ball destroying anyone who crosses their path to the Breslin. Here are a few prospects from both teams who caught my attention on Monday.

Belleville's brightest star shined right from the opening tip in their Regional Semifinal against Dexter. Sydney started the game with two full-court layups off of steals and continued to dominate on both ends all night. She buried four triples with silky smooth shooting mechanics and secured many rebounds. Sydney scored a strong and-one layup in transition and used her shoulder to create space for another layup off two feet in the paint. She won our PGH Michigan Sophomore Player of the Year Award and Michigan's Gatorade Player of the Year Award. Sydney scored 32 points with 10 rebounds and six assists. She made it look easy and that's exactly what a high major D1 prospect does against good teams.

SeCrette showed off her shooting efficiency with a stellar semifinal performance against Dexter on Monday. Her high-arcing follow-through and balanced platform resulted in a game-high five three-pointers from different spots around the arc. SeCrette buried a mid-range jumper and added two free throws. She ended the game with 23 points for the Tigers.

Rylan was productive for the Tigers in multiple categories during their win against Dexter in the semifinals on Monday. Rylan beat her defender with a burst off the dribble, then dropped in a soft floater. She knocked down two confident triples and effectively set up teammates to score with her accurate passes. Rylan finished the game with a well-round eight points, five assists, and five rebounds.

Christine imposed her will in the paint during Belleville's semifinal victory against Dexter on Monday. Christine finished well around the basket with several layups off two feet. She muscled her way into position for offensive rebounds, which resulted in putbacks. Christine scored 10 with eight rebounds. She is strong, mobile, and a very impactful player on both ends for the Tigers.

Alena led Dexter in scoring against Belleville on Monday with 14 points. After sealing defenders in the low post, she used effective drop-steps and step-throughs to score contested layups off the glass--one of her best was a baseline reverse. She added six free throws from the charity stripe and will be a solid addition to Spring Arbor next fall.

Layla had a fantastic freshman season at Dexter and she competed hard for the Dreds against Belleville on Monday. Layla has an accurate shot from beyond the arc and she gave the team a spark with her three triples. Layla scored 10 in the game and will be exciting to watch during the travel season.

Kendall was an important contributor for Dexter all season and she competed hard against an elite Belleville squad on Monday. Kendall worked hard on defense and knocked down two triples for the Dreds. One of my favorite moments from the game happened when Kendall casually buried a wing three, while "Crazy Train" blasted on the loudspeakers 15 seconds into the third quarter. Her versatility, competitive edge, and contributions on both ends will be a great addition to a college program.
