GVSU Elite Camp--Making a Splash

GVSU Elite Camp was organized, fast-paced, and challenging, designed to put prospects in situations that would thoroughly evaluate them by the staff. Campers had numbered/colored pennies that made it easy to transition between games, evaluate, and provide media coverage for some new faces. The environment truly felt like an elite camp because of the structure and quality of the prospects in the gym. I learned new drills that I'm excited to use in the future, and had a blast watching some of my favorite prospects compete together in a high-stakes environment. Here are several prospects who made a splash in the gym.    Karleigh's aggressiveness and multidimensional presence on both ends of the court made her stand out at GVSU Elite Camp. Karleigh used an effective high-rip move to finish a tough layup, drove hard to the basket, and absorbed contact for a strong and-one. She blocked a shot attempt, snagged an offensive rebound, and created deflections with her active hands on defense. Karleigh scored multiple layups with a burst off the dribble & shared the ball with her teammates. She had a solid day and is a prospect I'd love to watch at The Expo in September.     Alexandra competed alongside high school prospects and fit right in at the GVSU Elite Camp. She zoomed around the court and made athletic plays on both ends of the court. Alexandra outworked her defender to secure an offensive rebound and scored the putback. She drained a wing three, scored a fast layup in transition, and added a tough layup off two feet through contact. Her length, relentless effort, and versatility on offense are going to make her an immediate impact player at the high school level. She's a marquee middle school prospect, and I'm thrilled to have her attending the Headliners Invitational.     Delaney turned in an all-around solid performance at GVSU Elite Camp. She produced steals on defense, handled the ball with confidence, and made smart passes to open teammates when her shot wasn't open. Delaney attacked downhill to cause a foul and knocked down her free throw at the line. She showed her outside range by drilling a wing three off the catch, then created space with a crossover dribble to sink a straightaway triple up top. Delaney is a prospect on the rise, and she will be an exciting player to watch at the Headliners Invitational.     Isla was a 2029 prospect at GVSU who immediately grabbed my attention. As a guard, her length, quickness, and athleticism left an impression. She zipped passes to teammates, buried a wing three with confidence, and drove with a burst to the basket. Another playmaker is coming to Grand Rapids South Christian, and I hope to see Isla again at the Freshman Showcase.     Hadleigh didn't look or play like an incoming Freshman at GVSU Elite Camp. She had the strength and balance to absorb contact around the basket and finish. Hadleigh walled up to block a shot in the paint and worked hard to take away high-percentage looks at the rim. She can handle the ball with both hands and is a determined rebounder. Hadleigh would be an exciting prospect to watch at the Freshman Showcase.     Sometimes a prospect slips through the cracks--Sadie is a point guard who had me feeling that way at GVSU Elite Camp. She's compact, tough, and demonstrated shifty ball-handling control that made her very difficult to defend. Sadie changed directions quickly and attacked with straight-line speed that put her on the free throw line. Sadie is a perimeter threat and shot the ball confidently from three-point distance. Her aggressive pressure, quick feet, and active hands lead to steals.
