At the PGH Sophomore ID Camp, we had over 70 players who all came ready to compete. Many stopped me to say they were determined to earn their rankings and consistently asked for tips on how to improve their game. The gym was packed with talent, and the environment was electric. Players battled in 3v3 and then 5v5, and the atmosphere felt like a championship game as everyone left it all on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='1307541' first='Sophia' last='Bautista'] mastered the art of the corner three. Whenever her teammates drove, she positioned herself perfectly in the corner or on the wing for the kick-out three—and she consistently knocked it down. If defenders closed out on her, she showcased one of the best pump/head fakes in the gym, forcing them to jump at her shot. Because her shooting was so reliable, they had to respect it, and before they landed, she was already driving to the rim or finding the open teammate off the defensive rotation. Sophia is a true zone buster—the type of shooter every coach needs to quickly break down a zone defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1235883' first='Isabella' last='Gomes'] is a high-energy player on both ends of the floor. Defensively, if there was a turnover while she was on the court, she likely caused it—whether by being a pest on the ball or staying disciplined in help defense. Offensively, she was always moving, even after passing, and consistently knew how to fill the right spots. One standout play came when Gomes grabbed a rebound among taller players, pushed the ball in transition, and delivered a no-look pass to a teammate for a three. Gomes proved she is a baller who can impact the game in multiple ways.

In four separate possessions, I watched [player_tooltip player_id='1308934' first='Kaitlyn' last='Farr'] make a pass to the wing, then relocate to the corner for a three and knock it down. On the next possession, she posted up a smaller player and made a nice post move for the score. After that, she blocked a shot, and then followed it up by knocking down a sidestep three. Farr came to showcase her ability to impact the game and her high basketball IQ in contributing to her team's success. She's the type of player you look at the stat sheet afterward and see a double-double, nearly flirting with a triple-double. Farr made a statement at the showcase, earned her recognition, and proved she's a player to know.

[player_tooltip player_id='708143' first='Kendall' last='Proffitt'] showcased why she is one of the top recruits not only in her class but in the entire state. Her ability to shoot the ball is top tier. The 6'1”–6'2” guard can shoot over the top of defenders and consistently knock down shots from deep. She also displayed her ability to put the ball on the floor, using combo dribbles to create space for side steps or step-backs while still getting her shot off. Without a doubt, Kendall was a top-3 shooter in the gym and proved why she already holds multiple Division I offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1235154' first='Lillian' last='Mathis'] was a dominant force. In just the past year, her game has improved drastically. She was always good, but now her game is polished, and she plays with confidence and a strong understanding of the game. She is the anchor of her team, constantly talking and directing her teammates like a floor general, making sure everyone gets the right shots. Mathis is a savant in the high post with the ball in her hands, able to give her opponents the work however they want it—she can drive, shoot, post up, and even stretch the floor from behind the arc. Mathis made a loud statement that she is one of the best players in her class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1246829' first='Bijoux' last='Lacombe'] was one of the top ball handlers in the building. She broke down defenders with a change-of-pace dribble, into an in-and-out, between-the-legs move, changing direction on a dime. This allowed her to get to the rim, and if you overplayed, she had the quickest punch-dribble step-back, knocking down shots with precision. Bijoux was also a pro at using ball screens to her advantage, getting to her spots with quickness. If you went under to slow her down, she made you pay by hitting threes—even when she picked up her dribble early, she still found a way to score. Defensively, she was just as impressive, forcing plenty of turnovers by pressuring ball handlers in their personal space. Bijoux definitely raised her stock after her performance.

[player_tooltip player_id='514911' first='Analia' last='Santana'] had one of the smoothest in-and-out hesitation moves I saw all weekend. Don't let her size fool you—after making that move, she drove to the rim and used her angles to cut off her defender for a crafty slide-by layup, a next-level move. Analia knows how to use floaters, runners, and off-foot layups to throw off defenders' timing and finish around the rim. She was also elite at creating steals and pushing the ball quickly in transition. As she continues to develop a consistent jump shot, she has the potential to average double digits in high school.

[player_tooltip player_id='1259850' first='Peyton' last='Olson'] knew how to get to her spots to get her shot off. Olson had a smooth jump shot with good lift and follow-through, and she understood spacing, which made it easier for her to find open looks. When her teammates cut, she knew exactly where to fill, showing the type of IQ that benefits a player with her quick release. Even while hunting her own shot, she kept her head up and made on-time passes, often passing her teammates open. As Peyton continues to improve her ball handling, she is a player teams will need to game plan for.
