We at Prep Girls Hoops have been doing just that with our recaps of last weekend's Carolinas Expo and Freshman Showcase. The Rock Hill Sports and Events Center – one of the region's newest venues – once again was the site for all of the festivities.

The addition of Freeman to coach Brandon Wallace's Gray Collegiate assembling certainly made its transition from 2A to 4A a lot less daunting. Freeman can attract plenty of attention whenever she has the ball in her hand given her ability to not only make plays but put her teammates in position to do the same. She places as much emphasis on ball distribution, rebounding and defense as she does scoring. Freeman is one who possesses plenty of court vision. She played in 20 games last season for the War Eagles and averaged 10.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals per contest.

Last season, Lucy Beckham made the transition from 4A to 5A Division 2. Plenty of wattage helped make said move much easier. A product of FBC Reign 2027 on the Under Armour circuit, Watts approaches the game with a heads-up attitude that enables her to take advantage of an opposing team's miscues. She is an efficient floor runner – an attribute that comes in very useful when making plays in transition or when slicing and dicing her way to the basket through a sea of defenders. If she sees a shot she likes from behind the arc, Watts is likely to take and make it. Watts averaged 8.4 points and 1.3 steals last season for the Bengals.

The Gators of 5A Division 1 River Bluff certainly put themselves in the conversation of teams that won the offseason with the addition of this multi-skilled veteran guard. With Godfrey in River Bluff's dark green and Vegas gold hues, the Gators could be favorites to win the coming season. Godfrey can get from one end of the floor to the other with plenty of speed and quickness. The ball handling skills she possesses can throw plenty of defenders for a loop. A primary element to her game is how she attacks the rim but she has no problems attempting 3-pointers as well.

The 2024-25 version of 5A Division 1 Clover concluded the season with a 22-3 record. With Chambliss as part of the veteran core for coach Shakkia Walker's Blue Eagles, one can expect that Clover will again be one of the teams to beat in 5A Division 1. Chambliss does not shy away from contact as she knows it can place her at the free throw line. Another key element to Chambliss' game is that she does not give up on a play and places plenty of emphasis on doing the little things that may not always show up on a stat sheet.
