Now that the previews for Classes 1A and 2A are complete, it's time to finish up Class 3A. These should be completed by the end of the week, as the season is in its third week, and I wanted to continue offering you a glimpse at what the 2025-26 season could hold with a preview of each of the state's 64 Sectionals once again. During the Spring of 2024, the IHSAA moved to a traditional enrollment-based format, realigning all classes with hard enrollment cutoff lines per class instead of taking nearly 400 schools and simply dividing them into four equal classes. With that said, each class has been more competitive, but the bigger classes have fewer teams than the smaller classes. This article serves as one of 64 previewing each Sectional in the state. In this specific article, I will take a look at Class 3A, Sectional #30. Below is a look at the teams in that Sectional, along with some general comments and analysis.
(SAG = Final 2024-2025 Multiclass Sagarin Rating (398 teams); SOS = Final 2024-2025 Strength of Schedule)

Sectional #30 is typically pretty strong from top to bottom, and this year shouldn't be much different. While anyone can beat anyone, there will be a couple of standout teams I would point to as favorites in 2025-2026. The Dragons of Silver Creek have a very experienced group, and they look to be a state title contender, not just a favorite in Sectional #30. 6-3 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='486543' first='Brooklynn' last='Renn'] (18.6p, 10.0r, 2.2a, 1.8s, 3.1b) is a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches. She is extremely long, fast, and bouncy, she can score it around the block and in the mid-post, plus she has made herself consistently effective from the perimeter. 5-7 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='422604' first='Emma' last='Schoen'] (16.7p, 4.4r, 3.2a 1.8s) had a spectacular July, and she is a dangerous perimeter shooter who can fill it up or create offense for teammates off the bounce. 5-6 Junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='751057' first='Emily' last='Robison'] (5.4p, 3.8r, 2.6a, 2.0s) is as steady as they come at running an offense. She is a nice athlete, but she doesn't force the action, she gets it where it needs to go, plus she can knock down open shots, and she defends with energy. 6-0 Senior post [player_tooltip player_id='1266853' first='Joslyn' last='Chesser'] (2.5p, 2.7r) was highlighted recently in our 2026 rankings, because she had a nice Summer as well. She is a strong kid, she can play physical around the block, but she also has some touch outside and can burn defenses from the perimeter. After those four, there are some unproven commodities, but as many as three Freshmen could see the floor early this year, plus they have other nice youngsters from a solid Junior Varsity team last year.

Charlestown has enough returning to their roster to scare just about anyone in Class 3A. They have a little size, good guard play, and six ladies who played nearly all of the minutes a season ago. The only thing they don't really do is go deeper than those six. 6-0 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='751050' first='Chesney' last='Jackson'] (13.7p, 10.9, 1.3a, 1.7s, 1.3b) is strong, physical, and athletic, plus she has some skill facing the basket. She is somewhat "hidden" in Southern Indiana, but she is primed for a big year. 5-7 guard [player_tooltip player_id='900040' first='Natalie' last='Gagnon'] (7.7p, 2.9r, 2.3a, 1.9s) is the lone Senior this season, and she has the skillset to play both on and off the ball. She is long, fluidly athletic, and does a lot of the "little things" to help her team(s) win. From there, the other four are all Juniors. 5-6 guard [player_tooltip player_id='751100' first='Madalynn' last='Warnock'] (9.4p, 1.0r, 2.0a, 1.2s) is another combo guard who does a little bit of everything, plus she's a capable perimeter shooter. 5-4 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='751035' first='Alexis' last='Finchum'] (8.5p, 6.2r, 4.6a, 2.0s) is incredibly tough-nosed, hard-working, and "team" first. She is quite the distributor, but she also defends and rebounds well at her size. 5-11 post [player_tooltip player_id='1001446' first='Kendra' last='Higdon'] (5.9p, 7.1r) is strong, physical, and productive inside the arc, while 5-5 wing [player_tooltip player_id='1248158' first='Abbi' last='Rutherford'] (1.1p, 1.0r) lends help in the backcourt as the primary sub for the Pirates. Assuming they don't have to deal with any injury issues or foul trouble, Charlestown is going to be a handful this Winter.

The Madison Cubs are kind of in a similar situation to Charlestown. They return six of their top seven players and only graduated 3.0 points per game. So, they are primed for a big year and could easily get to 20 wins and earn a Sectional #30 title. 5-7 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='624877' first='Juliana' last='Davis'] (18.4p, 5.4r, 3.1a, 4.6s) is a long, wiry, but smooth and creative scorer. She can knock down open jumpers or slip through the cracks in a defense and finish in a variety of ways. She's also a plus-defender. 5-8 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1256512' first='Addison' last='Roark'] (10.4p, 4.2r, 3.5a, 1.6s) will join Davis in the veteran backcourt. She is a nice athlete, a hard worker, and a productive wing who does a little of everything. 6-0 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='832703' first='Mylee' last='McQueary'] (10.6p, 6.4r, 1.7a, 1.2s) is a third returning double-figure scorer for the Cubs. She offers the lineup a great deal of versatility, as she has a nice jump-shot from the 3-point line, but she also has the size, skill, and ability to be productive in and around the paint. 5-5 Junior guard Kenzie Smith (7.0p, 5.4r, 1.4a, 2.0s) is a fourth returning starter who has shown the potential for double-digit scoring numbers, which can help take the pressure off the above three at times. Senior wing Kylie Montgomery (3.8p, 2.5r, 1.2a, 3.6s) and Sophomore guard Natty Montgomery (1.1p, 1.6r) should round out the core, at least early in the season. If those two can increase their scoring just a little, the Cubs could be terribly difficult to defend, if they aren't already.

Additional Players to Keep an Eye On: Corydon Central: 5-8 Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='496070' first='Reese' last='Withers'] (9.7p, 5.1r, 1.5a, 1.3s) and 5-3 Senior guard Paisley Teeter (8.9p, 1.4r, 1.1a, 1.4s); North Harrison: 5-11 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='665452' first='Grace' last='Goldman'] (17.2p, 9.3r, 2.8a, 2.4s, 1.0b) and 5-8 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1259577' first='Olivia' last='Brown'] (12.1p, 1.9r, 1.7s); Scottsburg: Junior guard Addison Elliott, Junior guard Addison Eldridge, and Sophomore post K.K. Grogan
