Oregon girls high school basketball tips off next week. We ranked the top 12 teams in the 6A classification and will update the list weekly during the regular season. Here is a breakdown for teams ranked 5 through 8 (Go to Top 4):

5. Southridge

2024-25 Record: 20-9 (9-1, Metro League)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id='832605' first='Sara' last='Mangan'], [player_tooltip player_id='1231681' first='Camryn' last='Herzberg'], [player_tooltip player_id='921397' first='Addison' last='White'], Alex Lytchani, Bailey Griffin

The Southridge team that won the Metro League title and advanced to the state tournament, where they defeated South Medford in the 6A consolation bracket, will return four of its starters from last season, including All-League Player of the Year [player_tooltip player_id='832605' first='Sara' last='Mangan']. Mangan, signed with Portland, is a top playmaker in the state and can efficiently launch from deep. She's accompanied in the backcourt by sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1231681' first='Camryn' last='Herzberg'], a strong two-way athlete who can get to the rim and make big stops on defense. The Skyhawks graduated center Faye Scott, but still have 6-foot-1 [player_tooltip player_id='921397' first='Addison' last='White'] to provide a big presence inside.

6. Nelson

2024-25 Record: 16-8 (12-2, Mt. Hood Conference)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id='832046' first='Love' last='Forde'], [player_tooltip player_id='832544' first='Nylah' last='Webster'], [player_tooltip player_id='1223909' first='Simone' last='Sideris'], [player_tooltip player_id='921631' first='Tatiana' last='Harris'], [player_tooltip player_id='1223926' first='Jasmine' last='Nita']

Nelson returns all of its starters, including two of the top-five players in the class of 2027 — [player_tooltip player_id='832046' first='Love' last='Forde'] and [player_tooltip player_id='832544' first='Nylah' last='Webster']. Forde is a 6-foot-2 power forward with a strong frame who can move smoothly and finish inside with a soft touch. Webster, committed to Utah, is a 6-foot shooting guard who averaged a double-double in a top bracket at the PIL Holiday Classic last season. Senior forward/guard [player_tooltip player_id='1223909' first='Simone' last='Sideris'] is an athlete who makes plays on both ends, and senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='921631' first='Tatiana' last='Harris'] is a tenacious defender. Power forward [player_tooltip player_id='1264962' first='Aubrey' last='Pentecost'] could be an impact freshman, drawing defenders and opening things up for Forde to go to work inside. Another freshman, [player_tooltip player_id='1264933' first='Payton' last='Webster'], could also make an impact inside and out on both ends. Nelson was eliminated by Tualatin in the second round of the playoffs last season, but should earn a higher seed and an easier path this time around. The Hawks are favored to win the Mt. Hood Conference this season.

7. Beaverton

2024-25 Record: 14-12 (8-2, Metro League)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id='832048' first='Dara' last='Oluwafemi'], [player_tooltip player_id='925981' first='Ruby' last='Foord'], [player_tooltip player_id='1223843' first='Alexia' last='Braden'], [player_tooltip player_id='556727' first='London' last='Bologoff'], [player_tooltip player_id='1015768' first='Mila' last='Watson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1312935' first='Ashlyn' last='Hicks']

Beaverton returns its core roster after placing second in the Metro League and advancing to the second round of the playoffs, where they were eliminated by under-ranked power Clackamas last season. The Beavers are led by two top-ten juniors, [player_tooltip player_id='832048' first='Dara' last='Oluwafemi'] and [player_tooltip player_id='925981' first='Ruby' last='Foord']. Oluwafemi is a smooth, D1-level point guard who committed to club program Jason Kidd in November. Foord is a 5-foot-11 guard who hits corner threes and finishes strong takes to the rim. Beaverton boasts three returning forwards — [player_tooltip player_id='556727' first='London' last='Bologoff'], [player_tooltip player_id='1223843' first='Alexia' last='Braden'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1312935' first='Ashlyn' last='Hicks'] — who give the team a strong presence inside and on the boards. Look out for sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1015768' first='Mila' last='Watson'], who had a standout summer with [program_tooltip program_id='1035055' first='Northwest' last='Select'] and could emerge as a top backcourt player in the Metro League.

8. West Salem

2024-25 Record: 13-12, (7-2, Central Valley Conference)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id='502352' first='Emma' last='Zuniga'], [player_tooltip player_id='921624' first='Sami' last='Griffin'], [player_tooltip player_id='1232849' first='Lily' last='Griffin'], Lilea Burns

With coach Justin Duke newly at the helm and top-ten senior [player_tooltip player_id='502352' first='Emma' last='Zuniga'], who signed with Portland State, in her final year, West Salem is looking to perform at its full potential this season. The Titans underperformed last year, giving up a share of the Central Valley Conference title in an upset loss to South Salem and earning a lower playoff seed. They met Jesuit, and the end to their season, in the first round. West Salem graduated athletic forward Braeli Martin and lost their cheeky point guard [player_tooltip player_id='921583' first='Chica' last='Casas'], who transferred to the rival Saxons. Otherwise, the Titans return a core group. Five-foot-9 Zuniga leads West Salem as a strong, lengthy, two-way forward/guard and three-level scoring threat. Five-foot-10 senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='921624' first='Sami' last='Griffin'] has a nice shot, can drive to the rim, and is a strong rebounder on both ends. The Titans might look to senior [player_tooltip player_id='1223934' first='Johanna' last='Diaz'] or sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='1232849' first='Lily' last='Griffin'] and Lilea Burns as options to replace Casas at the point. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1379439' first='Sophia' last='Zuniga'] will add strength inside and will know how to play with her older sister from the jump.
