There are some players that did a great job of showing out in showcases so far this year. We’ll look at 5 players from Michigan that did just that.
When I saw LaPrairie play in the spring and summer, I was impressed. Then I saw her at the David Barns Showcase and realized that she was just much better than her ranking and had made vast improvements to her game. She was a multi level scorer that could bury a triple as well as use multiple fakes with the ball to help her get to the rim. More than a few people in the gym noticed LaPrairie’s game and took notice of it.
Belcher-Arill is an elite type of talent. People watch her play and think that she’s a power forward, but she’s not, she’s a shooting guard. That speaks to the versatility and power that she showed at the Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 as well as the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 250. Every year, this young lady impresses everyone in the gym with her game. I’m not willing to cap Belcher-Arill’s potential at any level. Sky’s the limit.
Highlights
I didn’t become real familiar with Schwalbach’s game until this summer, and I was missing out. She can flat out play. She showed a tremendous all around game at the David Barns Showcase, from passing to defending and everywhere in between. She did it again at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250, really making coaches and scouts take note. Schwalbach is a playmaking forward that bring energy and a scoring threat from multiple levels.
Standfest came into showcase season riding the momentum of a really good grassroots campaign. She certainly didn’t let that momentum fade at the PGH Michigan Top 250. Her versatility and energy that she brought to the floor stood out to scouts, coaches, and fans at the event. Standfest just did so many different things at a high level. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest bit if she averaged a double-double in point and rebounds this high school season.
Hartwick is a regular at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250, where she flaunted her skills again this year. She was equally as terrific at the David Barns Showcase. Hartwick was one of the top ball handlers and floor generals at both events. She can simply break down her defender off the bounce and make plays with it in her hands. Hartwick is a solid passer as well, utilizing both a chest pass with zip as well as a bounce pass that has touch.
