Fit is everything when you are talking about playing after the high school level. If you don’t fit into what the program is about, you’ll either never play. Which isn’t great so that’s why you’ll hear me say to make sure your fit within a program is there first. If not, it’ll be tough.

of Millard West committed two weeks ago to Iowa Western CC. She made this choice because it was closer to home, she felt a connection with the staff, and she enjoyed the campus. I know for a fact that she had several different suitors at the next level from all across the Country. So that just details how she felt about this situation at Iowa Western, prior to making her commitment.

Millard West came into Iowa and secured a much needed W in their contest at Johnston High School. This Millard West team is loaded with weapons and that’s why they are favored to go back-to-back as State Champs this Winter. Someone new to the program but not the game of basketball is

. I’ve been a fan of Lewis ever since I saw her a few years back at our PGH Fall Showcase. She demonstrated that she is a multi-talented guard, that really will do whatever it takes to help her team win. She is a hard worker, she hustles on both ends never taking plays off, and she seems like a great teammates to compete with on the floor. I was impressed with what she did for the Wildcats last week and I’m sure that trend will continue on into 2025.

Coming off of a season with a 19-2 record and Yutan High School has basically lost most of their roster that produced a year ago. One of their biggest losses being SG –

to Millard West. Lewis has shown up over the past year as a top end recruit because of the production she brings to the floor. Now that she has joined up with a team that only lost one game last year on their way to a State Title, I’m sure that she is going to look even better this season. From my understanding, she will start the high school season competing at the JV level because of the transfer cut-off but that’s okay. I’ve said it for years now. Lewis is a collegiate level prospect and that’s going to be evident this season when she steps into a vital role at Millard West by the end of the year.

is someone that I had a chance to see compete last year prior to the high school season and since then, she has seemly gotten better over time. Lewis is someone that has a fundamental play-style with great balance and coordination. She can score in a number of different ways while attacking the hoop or she can facilitate to an open teammate when the defense over helps. She is someone that has some physicality to her at the guard position and she tends to play with a chip on her shoulder. When she is competing with other well rounded prospects, she thrives and this AAU season, that is what we have seen first hand at an elite and consistent rate.

compete over this past 6 months, I was surprised. On film she is a player that makes some good plays but in person, she was a complete difference maker. It didn’t matter if she had to bring up the ball as the point, score from the outside as the SG, or if she had to find open space in the mid-post. Her combination of first step speed, coordination near the rim, and fundamental shot form is impressive. Those are all things that have been on full-display this winter with her Yutan Chieftains High School team. Lewis has taken this confident play-style, brought it along into the season and it’s paying off. Up until this point, her team is sitting with an 8-2 overall record while she is averaging around 10 PPG. Within a program that has a handful of different quality players, to be one of the top producers in a number of categories is impressive. She may only be a Junior but Lewis could play at the next level, given the right situation. She has demonstrated that time and time again as this season has progressed on.

. Lewis is a decent sized guard, who can really do it all on the floor. She isn’t a natural point guard but can bring up the ball with an above average handle, she isn’t a natural shooting guard but can she shoot it from all three levels efficiently, and she isn’t a natural post but she likes to post up and score over smaller defenders on a consistent basis throughout a contest. Lewis was one of the most well-rounded players at this event from a skills, smarts, and athleticism stand-point. She was someone that the coach could put in at a number of different positions, every other possession, and she would still produce in whatever she was trying to accomplish. Lewis was one of the first players I saw compete on Sunday, she stood out in that contest and throughout the rest of the day. I’m hoping she can ride this momentum into her high school season moving forward!
