The Morningside Mustangs scooped up another prospect out of Nebraska, this time being SF –

of Millard West High School. Gomes was an important piece to her team’s overall success last season as they suffered just one lose and ended up winning their Class State Title. This season, she is going to be right back in the similar situation but with a little more responsibility. This program does lose a little bit of production at the Varsity level due to graduation and others will need to step up to help the cause. Gomes is going to be looked upon in some of those moments. Her dominant force near the lane is something that most teams can’t match when having to account for everyone else around her and because of that, she should thrive at times. After this season, it’ll be awesome to see Gomes come into Iowa, looking to make a difference at the next level. With her mixture of height, physicality, and situational awareness, she should fair just fine.

of Millard West High School. Gomes should have a more prominent role on her Wildcats team this season, as they attempt to go back-to-back as State Champs for their Class. Gomes brings size at 6’1, physicality, communication, and heart with her onto the hardwood and I’m hoping that shows out 10 fold this next six months. While the Gessert sisters are still on the roster, they will obviously be the main producers but they do a great job of setting up everyone else around them for success so Gomes just needs to stay ready.

Millard West is coming off of a high school season where they only took one loss on their way to bringing home a State Title. This Winter they will return a good amount of pieces from a year ago with the hopes of replicating what they were able to do for the 2023-2024 Varsity season. A prospect for this team that will get a chance to step up and play some big minutes is another force in the middle for this group and that is

. Gomes is another player from the
Nebraska Attack
with better than average size and impressive natural instincts. She is someone that has been recently added to our system but that doesn’t change the fact that she can make a difference on offense and defense. Her natural height and positioning near the hoop makes it challenging for smaller guards to get easy looks, while she also can use her size to her advantage and out-rebound most. Like I said, this group will have a chance to put together another season to remember and Gomes is going to have to chance to play a real factor in their success.

and Millard West High School. The reason I haven’t seen her compete much is because during high school ball, her team has been stacked. They are coming off of a State Title, only suffering a loss to a team from Iowa, who happened to end their season as the #12 team in the Nation. Gomes over her few games at the Legacy Classic displayed great size at 6’1 and some promising skill. Whenever she caught the ball and shot it, the shot looks beautiful out of her release. When you pair that with her size, you start to understand the promise within her actual game. I’m hoping this Winter that Gomes gets more court time as they will lose a good amount of their producers due to graduation but right now she is just worried about the AAU season in front of her. Something we can all respect.
