It is going to be a big season for Quinn Pershing of Mount Vernon High School. Pershing, the knockdown SG, is going to have opportunity on opportunity as we move forward. I expect her to shoot the rock more this Winter, which is saying something because her workload in the past has been stacking year-by-year so I’m excited to see the potential upside. I think coming into the year of 2026 Pershing thought her job was to solely shoot the rock and she is going to evolve from that. That will most likely stay as her best overall ability on the hardwood but demonstrating that she can also handle, assist, rebound, and defend will be a big selling point as she looks to bring in some offers from the next level as we continue to move forward. Don’t get it twisted. This is a college level prospect. Now it’s just determining at which level is going to take a chance.

Some lucky college is going to get Quinn Pershing Quinn Pershing 5'10" | CG Mt. Vernon | 2028 State IA as their Shooting Guard in the near future and I’m excited to see who that college is going to be. Pershing is a dead eye shooter from deep. She is pretty good off both the bounce and catch in those moments but she really shines off the catch. We have seen that ability for a few years now at the Varsity level so this is no surprise to anyone that has been paying attention. I expect QP to hit some major shots over her next two seasons of Varsity play. She will be her team’s starting SG and their starting PG is a future D1 player so I’m sure that combination is going to feed families, per se – over the next two years at the very least. We had a chance to see a little preview of that at this event. QP was making some deep buckets while being contested in both 3v3 and 5v5 action. Her movement into space when she was/is moving off the ball is impressive. It speaks to her knowledge of the game, which is already at that collegiate level and that knowledge will only grow deeper with experience.

If we are looking at total makes and FG% from distance, Quinn Pershing returns this Winter as the most consistent 3 point shooting threat within the 3A Class. Pershing is one of those that you can’t help off of defensively. Last season opposing team’s didn’t seem to understand that concept and it left her WIDE open for a bunch of buckets. It’s one thing to be open, you still have to be able to make those shots if you are going to lead an entire Class within a single State and that’s what we have going on here. We have highlighted Pershing’s ability to knock down buckets off the catch before. She has a shot that always looks the exact same whenever she lets it go and it goes into the hoop a good amount of the time – no matter if she is pressured or not on the attempt. As a Sophomore QP hit long range shots at a 44% rate while knocking down 77/175 in totality. If she can replicate that once again this season for her Junior year, she should lead the 3A Class once again.

One of the best overall shooters out of this 2028 Class moving into the month of July is Quinn Pershing Quinn Pershing 5'10" | CG Mt. Vernon | 2028 State IA of Mount Vernon High School. Pershing makes the ball go into the hoop at a high rate off the catch and shoot or at least she did last Winter as a Sophomore. We know the work that QP puts in during her off-season work and how many shots she has made over her career while working in the gym. It’s not shocking that her shot is starting to fall at elite rates as she plays at the Varsity level. She has dedicated a big portion of her life to this game and the game is starting to give back. That’s what you love to see out of a promising, young talent.

The convertibility of Quinn Pershing’s jump shot is impressive and she makes that happen because of the ten’s of thousands of shots she has put up during the off-season throughout her career up until this point. Pershing has somewhat of an unorthodox way of releasing the ball but it goes in some much that you get used to it. Throughout the past Winter season Pershing was someone that everyone opposing team had to worry about for Mount Vernon. The way she moved around the outside and how her teammates would find her led to several big buckets in meaningful contests as the season went on. That was crucial and it still seemed like no one was finding her when it mattered the most because it just kept happening over and over again. This is definitely someone that you don’t want to see making shots early on in the game if you are the opposing team because that usually means that she is going to be accurate all night long, no matter what type of defense you put in her face.

When Mount Vernon needed a lift Quinn Pershing Quinn Pershing 5'10" | CG Mt. Vernon | 2028 State IA was there to deliver. Pershing hit a skillful left handed layup in transition early in the first quarter, and later gave the Mustangs a boost of momentum with a cross-court three. In crunch time she showed composure beyond her years. Quinn stuck herself in the paint for a much-needed offensive rebound and putback to regain Mount Vernon’s lead, then soon after, she splashed all of her free throws when points were at a premium to widen the gap for Mount Vernon. Averaging 12.1 points this season, I would point to Quinn Pershing Quinn Pershing 5'10" | CG Mt. Vernon | 2028 State IA as Mount Vernon’s X-Factor as they look to claim back-to-back State Championships.

Time and time again we have seen Pershing hit big three point shots throughout a contest this season off the catch. She has a unique shot form but it goes in a lot. If you are an opposing coach, you have to scout prior and mark down that you cannot help off of her when someone else is driving towards the bucket. Too many teams are making that mistake and Pershing is making them pay. If Mount Vernon wants to make a run over the next 2-3 weeks into DSM, it’s going to take production out of their role players. Hoopers like Pershing. They will have a major hand in their overall success when it comes down to it.

Vernon | 2028 State IA is a great example of the old motto, “Good things come to those who work.” She didn’t see a ton of minutes as a Freshman on a loaded Mount Vernon squad last season, and that did not deter her — she has continued to stay committed and I can tell you firsthand this girl puts in the work. On another strong Mustang team this year Quinn has started 16/17 games and has improved her scoring average from last year’s 2.2 points per game, to 11.2 this year as a sophomore. Pershing is of the best deep threats in the WaMaC conference this year (shooting nearly 40% from 3PT), and makes defenses pay by hitting nearly 90% of her attempts at the free-throw line as well. Her contribution this season has helped MV string together an impressive 13-game win streak, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.

Vernon | 2028 State IA of Mount Vernon High School is known as a three point specialist to those who know her actual play-style but the past two games she has been shining as someone that has been consistently stepping up for the Mustangs in a number of different ways. On Tuesday night Pershing had a team high 22 points to help her squad beat Benton. Along with recording a few other positive stats. The Mustangs are not the same team they were last year but they do return some very capable prospects. If players like Pershing continue to step up like this and everyone does their job, they should have a solid chance to make it back to the State Tournament in a few months.
