Sophia Bouchard did a good job during this Live Period at picking up where she left off during the High School season with consistent play as she caught on the outside. Her shooting ability off of the catch has been steady the past few months and she has been able to play off of that by getting all the way into the teeth of the defense off the bounce whenever she is being over-played. When those opportunities present themselves she has demonstrated that she can finish on either side of the bucket, no matter if there is a defender protecting the paint or not. These are all abilities we saw on the offensive end last weekend and I’m sure there is even more to come.

is a trooper. Early on in this event Bouchard knocked heads with another guard her own size, leaving both with some nasty head scars and eventually, some stitches. That didn’t stop Bouchard from competing though. Both players got a few bandaids for the time being and kept on balling until the event concluded. From this point on, this is someone who made some solid plays on both sides of the floor as a passer, defender, and scorer. She made the most of her opportunities when she got back on the floor and I’m sure that will be the case once again this Winter as well at North Polk.

When young players are competing, it’s always vital for them to have a solid base. Literally and metaphorically. You need to be able to do the simple things consistently and then you can grow from there. At the same time, you need to always play off of two and a solid base so that you an adapt in any given situation. Someone who does a great job at both of these things is

15U. Bouchard has that base and discipline to take this game a long ways over her career. She works from primarily off the ball to start but she does seem to have the ability to bring it up as well if need be. I like where SB is at right now. I see good things out of her and that’s only going to grow with more experience over-time.

When it comes to picking and choosing your spots on offense, you need to realize situational basketball and that is something that

does a great job of. More times than not, Bouchard is looking to score from the perimeter with a jumper from deep but she also has demonstrated the ability to put the ball on the floor and get all the way to the basket. She has lengthy arms and an act for being a step ahead of her defender so as long as she has a lane to the rim, it’s usually going to end in a good take. Defensively, she is someone that can stick on a bigger player in the post or she can move and stick on a smaller guard with the basketball. It’s really whatever is needed from her team in those moments. I’ve seen some good moments out of Bouchard and I’m sure I’ll be seeing plenty more come this Winter when she is lacing up with the North Polk Comets. A team that is going to have revenge on their mind after last season.
