2000+ Points
Feltner is no stranger to hitting milestones, but it feels like she’s been able to add more and more to her already impressive resume this season. She became her school’s all-time leading scorer for boys or girls basketball this season and currently stands at 7th on Kentucky’s all-time state scoring leaderboard with 3,577 career points. After finishing last season as the state’s leading scorer, she has remained in the top 3 all season long and is currently averaging 28.5 PPG.
Trinh surpassed Greenwood’s current scoring record of 1,912 points this season and she also passed the 2,000 point mark. She is currently averaging 19.1 PPG and is shooting nearly 40% from 3 on the season. Trinh is a really quick point guard who can handle pressure and create good looks for her teammates. Teams constantly have to respect her at all 3 levels.
Jenna Hampton
Jenna Hampton
Hampton surpassed the 2,000 point mark in the start of her junior season and now holds Morgan County’s all-time scoring record with 2,100+ points. She is top 15 on the state’s scoring leaderboard as she’s averaging 23.1 PPG and she’s also adding 6.8 RPG. Hampton is one of the top players in a very talented 16th Region and she still has the remainder of this season and next to continue making waves on the floor.
Steele recently hit the 2,000 point milestone to add to her impressive high school career. She is one of the top floor generals in Kentucky, regardless of class, and because teams know how talented Steele is, she often faces double or triple teams. She is a true 3 level scorer who can create for herself or her teammates. Steele is averaging 19.3 PPG and 7.1 RPG, leading her team in both categories.
1,000+ Points
The star sophomore recently scored her 1,000th point as a Valkyrie, meaning she was able to surpass 1,000 points in less than 2 seasons of play. However, Johnson also played varsity basketball her 7th and 8th grade years at Shelby County, so she actually has 1,804 total points at the varsity level between the 2 schools. She is truly a special talent and the fact that she’s improved her game so much this season is scary considering she won the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year award as a freshman. Johnson is currently averaging 22.3 PPG and 7.8 RPG for a SHA team that has won back-to-back state championships.
Barrett recently surpassed the 1,500 point mark and if you’ve watched her play, that should come as no surprise as she is an extremely versatile scorer. However, she actually has hit more than one milestone this season as she also grabbed her 500th career rebound a couple of weeks ago. She’s averaging 19.2 PPG and 6.7 RPG, leading her team in both categories despite being a guard. However, that really illustrates the kind of player she is. Barrett is going to give 110% when she’s on the floor.
Highlights
Smith has hit the 1,500 point milestone this season. She has been considered a top player in the 14th region since she was in middle school and she just keeps getting better with every passing season. So far this season, Smith is averaging 22.5 PPG and her field goal percentages have been very impressive. She is shooting 53.7% overall, 44.7% from 3, and 85.1% from the charity stripe. She’s another player that is putting up excellent numbers while also being her team’s floor general.
Highlights
Thurmond scored her 1,000 point in the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament. If you’ve seen her play, you’ll know why I find this accomplishment so impressive and that is because of her unselfishness as a player. Despite being a player that can really put the ball in the basket, she is constantly looking to create for her teammates and will do whatever it takes to help her team win. Thurmond is averaging 15.9 PPG for the Banshees.
Grant has joined Greenwood’s 1,000 point club this season. She has really been dominating so far in her senior year and is currently averaging a double-double of 16.5 PPG and 12.2 RPG. Her 12.2 rebounds a game would put her at 5th on the state’s rebounding leaderboard. Grant is really tough and her post moves around the basket are hard to stop. Her 58.6% field goal percentage is also one of the best in the state.
Hughes hit the 1,000 point mark this season and she still has a lot of points to go. She is her team’s leading scorer and rebounder at 14.8 PPG and 7 RPG, and she has helped her team start the season with a 12-5 record. Hughes is a long, athletic guard who can fill up a stat sheet. I wish the KHSAA kept track of stats like steals and assists because she comes up with a ton of steals and assists as well.
Highlights
Archibald hit the 1,000 point mark which is especially impressive considering she did it 8 games into her sophomore season. This won’t be the last you hear of her hitting big milestones as she contributes in every way imaginable on the court. She is an excellent scorer, but she is also a very good floor general and defender. Archibald has strong handles and is very crafty with the ball. She really brings a lot of value to the court and is currently averaging 16.7 PPG and 4 RPG. She is also shooting nearly 40% from 3 on the season.
Couch recently surpassed the 1,000 point mark and has really been strong all-around in the first half of her junior season. She is a unique player as she really has a ton of guard and post skills within her game. She can knock down deep or mid-range shots, she makes great drives to the basket, and she can post you up inside. You can guard Couch well and she can still find ways to put the ball in the basket. If you double-team her, she makes great passes to her teammates. Couch is also a phenomenal shot blocker and strong rebounder. She is averaging 14.6 PPG and 5.3 RPG.
Highlights
Shae Harris
Shae Harris
Harris scored her 1,000 point this season despite missing majority of her sophomore season last year because of an ACL injury. She was a talented player before, but she came back from that injury on a different level. This season, she has truly shown how complete of a player she is and she contributes in so many ways for the Lady Indians. Harris is a scoring threat at all 3 levels and she uses her body so well to get good positioning on her drives. She is averaging 7.8 PPG and leading her team with 7.1 RPG. She’s shooting over 35% from 3 this season and brings a lot beyond offense to her team.
Rebounds
Thompson grabbed her 500th career rebound this season, an accomplishment you don’t see much from a guard (though she’s been playing very well in the post for Manual this season). What she brings to the floor is really invaluable because she can essentially do whatever is asked of her and she will be successful no matter what that task is. Thompson can really put the ball in the basket and she has proven that she’s extremely hard to stop because however you guard her, she has a shot or move she can use to score. She is currently averaging a team-best 14.4 PPG and 4.7 RPG, and she is doing it for one of the top teams in the state.
Highlights
Reichenbach joined the 500 club for rebounds this season at Spencer County High School. She is extremely tough to stop around the basket, but she also makes a lot happen no matter where she’s at on the floor. She has been huge for the Bears and is currently averaging 18.2 PPG and 9.4 RPG while helping lead her team to an 11-3 record. She’s shooting 54.2% overall which is a top 30 percentage in the state. Reichenbach has also hit a career high this season as she scored 33 points in a win over North Bullitt and she has scored 20+ points 5 different times this season. She has finished in double figures in all 14 of Spencer County’s games so far.
3-Pointers/Career Highs
Maci Adkins
Maci Adkins
Only a sophomore, Adkins recently broke Morgan County’s school record for 3’s in a game by knocking down 10 in a win over East Jessamine. She actually outscored the entire opposing team with her 37 points in that game (the Jaguars scored 31 total). Adkins is currently #3 on the state’s leaderboard for 3-point field goals as she is currently knocking down 3.7 per game. She’s had multiple games this season where she’s hit 5+ in a single game. Teams know how well she can shoot the ball from deep, but she works to get open and can get her shot off quickly.
Emily Thorpe
Emily Thorpe
Thorpe knocked down her 150th career 3-pointer this season. The lefty doesn’t need much space to get her shot off and she can knock them down from deep range. It’s impressive how quickly she can get her shot off even when she’s catching straight off of a screen or on the move. Thorpe’s 2.2 3-pointers per game puts her at 31st on the state’s leaderboards and she is shooting over 35% from deep on the season. The Lady Eagles have a lot of good shooters and could have a different leading scorer every other game, so the fact she hit this milestone really speaks to her shooting abilities.
Taylor McKenzie
Taylor McKenzie
McKenzie is Johnson Central’s leading scorer and she recently had a career high 24 points in a game. Following her career high, she dropped 20 points in the next game. What makes this accomplishment especially impressive is the well-balanced offense that the Lady Eagles have. They have multiple players that score the ball. McKenzie really works when she’s on the floor, constantly moving without the ball and consistently a disruptive defender. She can really play and guard position and she’s effective around the basket. Don’t be surprised to see her hit another career high before this season ends.
