This class has the chance to be really special and the top players have been showing that early in this high school season despite only being freshman. We just made our latest update to the 2027 rankings, so here is a look at the 6th through 10th ranked players.
To give you a glimpse into how special Simons is, let me start by saying that she is currently leading her team in every single statistical category tracked on KHSAA. Her team is 6-1 (with their only loss coming in their 1st game of the season) and she’s averaging 23.7 PPG and 7.7 RPG. She’s shooting 53.2% overall, 37.9% from 3, and 88.1% from the free throw line. You never have to question Simons work ethic or love for the game as it is very evident when you watch her play or see her in the gym. She can score in a variety of ways, she’s a strong rebounder, she can get blocks and steals defensively, and the list goes on and on. She’s also going to continue putting in the work to be the best because that is the kind of player she is.

Pernell is going to find ways to score no matter how hard you prepare to stop her. She plays much bigger than her size. When she steps onto the court, she has a fearless mindset and competes hard from start to finish. Pernell has very deep range on her shot and is currently shooting 41.1% from 3 on the season. To make that percentage even more impressive, you have to consider the fact that she is also averaging 2.6 made triples per game. She’s got good handles and a great feel for the game. Her team has played a hard schedule and is off to a 7-2 start. Pernell is averaging a team-best 16.1 PPG and has been a major part of Simon Kenton’s success.
Brown uses her speed and quickness so well. If you try to guard her tight, she’ll go right around you and can finish in creative ways around the rim. If you play off of her, she can knock down shots. At the PGH Freshman Showcase, she was an easy standout throughout the day. Her handles were strong and she had a great variety of moves she utilized to create space. She made good passes and really displayed a strong overall game.
Wheeler is the starting PG for a talented Franklin County team and she has been playing great in the start of her freshman season. She’s so quick and very good with the ball. She can get past defenders and really makes a lot of good stuff happen, both for herself and for her teammates. She can create well off of the bounce, creating open looks for her team in the post or on the perimeter. She also can score herself at all 3 levels. She can knock down jumpers or floaters in the paint or get to the rim. Wheeler is averaging 7.1 PPG and 3.7 RPG while shooting 51.3% from the field and 90% from the free throw line. She’s also got to be averaging multiple assists per game.

Knowles is a player that we felt really needed to be in the top 10 because she is a special talent. She has so much potential and she just keeps getting better and better. Her team has only played 5 games so far this season, but Knowles has been leading them in nearly every statistical category so far. She is averaging 18 PPG and 6.4 RPG while shooting 64.8% overall, 57.1% from 3, and 72.7% from the free throw line. Her length and athleticism cannot be taught, but her skillset is a clear result of the work she’s put in. She is a true 2-way player who can contribute in a lot of ways and will likely continue moving up this list as time goes on.
