Joe Lawson Memorial Saturday Standouts

This week's tournament coverage was closed out with an afternoon and early evening in Norman. Which featured the youth movement of Del City showing they're ready to keep making noise in 5A. And then a titantic 6A match up with Putnam City North and Norman.    Putnam City North kept Parks relatively quiet in the first quarter, but it was only a matter of time till she got it going. She started the second quarter by setting up a defender for a back cut and easy score, then she immediately forced a turnover. It was a start of a dominating final three quarters for the elite prospect. She consistently dribbled through waves of defenders, hit tough shots and looked for small moments to gain advantages. And she was money from the line in the final frame, which salted away the game.   A fun thing about watching elite prospects is watching them stack small edges. Yes, theres the ankle breaking moments and acrobatic finishes. But it's also watching how she manipulates defender's over aggressive when off the ball. Or how she's the one to follow the ball after passing to a teammate and get the putback. Super skilled player, who obviously is a student of the game.     Big time shot maker who drilled huge threes and mid-range jumpers throughout the contest. Great, quick rhythm on catch and shoot threes. While also having a strong cross to create space in iso situations for stepback jumpers. One of the top shooters in Oklahoma, who seems to thrive in the big moments. Joins teammate Gray to form one of the best shooting backcourts in Oklahoma.     Morgan was unconscious from deep in Del City's win over Class 6A Norman North. She caught fire in the second quarter and her hot shooting carried over into the third quarter which kept the Eagles comfortably ahead all second half. Most of her makes were of the floor spacing, catch and shoot variety. But she did comfortably drill a deep pull up triple. While also being quick to attack in transition, which included spin moves and "And 1" finishes. Impressive all scoring display from the rising sophomore.     Rock solid point guard, who simply got it done against good defense with quality handles and great vision. Rarely looked sped up or flustered by the quicker defenders. Simply played at her own pace, and was capable of getting downhill to create for others with great passes from either hand. Hit big jumpers when left open, as she has great shot selection. But really thrived in her role as a set up, traditional point guard.     Gritty forward prospect who came away with All Tournament honors for the third place Lady Eagles. She's a tough finisher around the rim, with a good blend of strength and touch. Fights for rebounds as well. Even forced a turnover when switched out onto a guard. Appears to be a high motor player who simply produces.     Was a bright spot for Norman North as a sharpshooting specialist. Has a pure shooting form, most evident as a catch and shooting threat. But also did hit in the mid-range when given the opportunity to put the ball on the floor a bit. Promising viewing early in her sophomore campaign, should continue to flourish as she continues to get more run at the varsity level.     A quiet start but a loud finish for the future North Texas post. She gave the opposition problems when she got the ball on the block, good post up moves with a soft touch. Stayed aggressive on the glass, even getting her own putback. Did a good job of contesting and blocking shots without fouling, even having the movement to keep up with a driving guard and then swatting the attempt. Liked the swagger and aggression she played with in the second half, seemed to be contagious energy.     Traditional center prospect, with long arms and good timing to contest and block shots. Knows role and embraces enforcer aspects of the game by grabbing rebounds and battling down low. Soft touch on post up scores. Does a good job sealing and quickly scoring by keeping the ball high.
