As we take a look at the basketball landscape around the State, there are some great stories unfolding. In this article, we look at some stand out individual performances and also recognize a team who played well this past Week.

Team of the Week

The Creekside Lady Knights sit at 7 and 1 (3 - 0 in week three) with an impressive road victory over Tocoi Creek. Creekside received some respect from various meeting outlets and then went out and backed it up last week. The team is strong at every almost every position, but razor thin at the point guard position. That weakness has made them stronger as a team. Collectively, they are getting the job done with ball movement, ball IQ, grit, etc.

Creekside might have the most physical front court on the First Coast. They are not just physical, but can score, defend, and create mismatches against the opposition. The duo is averaging close to 20 rebounds per game and showing that the opponent can't score if they don't have the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='514521' first='Brie' last='McCoy'] (above picture) has grabbed 40 rebounds in the last two games (22, 18) and through 6 games she is averaging a double-double (10.3 points, 10.8 rebounds). McCoy has always been a force down on the blocks and especially when she gets to her strong left hand. The rebounding has insanely been elevated to a new level. McCoy can also handle the ball well enough to assist with ball movement and get her guards out of trouble.

[player_tooltip player_id='1046157' first='Siun' last='Crowley'] is putting up similar numbers at the power forward position , averaging nearly 8 points and 9 rebounds per game. Crowley has great footwork, can handle the ball like a guard, and can step out and shoot the three ball. Crowley is comfortable with the ball in her hands and leads the team with nearly three assists per game. She has the ability to grab a rebound and take it coast to coast for the layup.

Shooters

[player_tooltip player_id='638552' first='Madeline' last='Rolander'] ans [player_tooltip player_id='1035278' first='Presley' last='Brinkley'] are one of the top new shooting tandems on the First Coast. In an area where Basketball in 2024 has taken a huge decline, three point shooting has been a strong spot for this team. Brinkley has 15 threes through 6 games and Rolander has 10 three pointers. The energizer, [player_tooltip player_id='527277' first='Cami' last='Waters'] has 7 threes.

Defense

[player_tooltip player_id='527277' first='Cami' last='Waters'] has led the way on this side of the ball. She is versatile and lengthy and can play the passing lanes and can cut off drives to the rim. Her transition defense is solid and she is one of the best shot blockers in transition I've seen. Waters is averaging 2 blocks per game. Creekside's defense is a total team effort and Waters is the Lady “Knight Commander.”

[player_tooltip player_id='638552' first='Madeline' last='Rolander'] has also come up big on the defensive side of the ball. She does a good job of tracking long passes and intercepting them. Rolander also has good instincts and plays the passing lanes well. She presently averages 2 steals per game

Under the Radar Standouts on the First Coast

[player_tooltip player_id='932263' first='Danyjah' last='Johnson'] made a crucial three pointer against Bishop Kenny and is a natural shooter. She played well at crucial times and played within the team concept. Johnson has playmaking teammates who could set her up for open shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='515110' first='Jacoreyn' last='Andrews'] (pictured) played well against Bishop Kenny and had some impactful plays throughout the game. Andrews has been a source of energy and effort all season. She has the ability to impact the game without scoring. Andrews looks for her teammates when she drives. A few times she took it all the way to the rim and even had a three point play. Andrews plays a smart game and stays within the team concept. She can score in transition and plays good on-ball defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='843397' first='Karli' last='Torres'] posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Last year Torres played well, especially on the boards. This past week she provided a glimpse of her abilities and what she is capable doing on a daily basis.

[player_tooltip player_id='934758' first='Brylee' last='Rains'] played well against Mandarin, knocking down two three pointers and putting the pressure on the defense. Rains showed good handles, an ability to score at the rim, and also get to the free-throw line. Rain had 9 free-throw attempts against Mandarin.
