The Week Ahead: Plans For This Week And April

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Prep Season is officially in the history books with the coronation of seven state champion clubs in Kansas this past weekend.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I will continue to look back and reflect on the prep season over the following weeks, but it's also time to move forward and prepare for the club season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>To be completely transparent, I am far more familiar with the volleyball club scene than I am with the basketball organizations that put on club season events. My plan for the club season is to search for ranked and unranked talent in the classes of 2028 and 2029 to deepen our ranking before the ''25-'26 prep season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This weekend, I plan to travel to Lakin, Kansas, to scout the [program_tooltip program_id='715500' first='Magic' last='Basketball'] Club tryouts. Being lead scout for three sports in Kansas, it is easier for me to schedule a tryout or a practice to watch than to attend a large club event. I encourage club coaches to reach out to me to share their schedules if interested in having me attend a workout. Also if a team has roster information online, please let me know, where to find them, or send them to me in an email.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Also when it comes to club ball, some athletes move around as frequently as NCAA players in the transfer portal. If you change club teams, ultimately, it's your responsibility to update your player profiles, or at least reach out to me if you change teams. I won't dedicate time to just updating club teams on player profiles.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>April will be an important month in terms of updating the rankings for the current Kansas Classes. Rankings updates are scheduled as follows but could be moved depending on different circumstances.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Class of 2025, March 25.</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Class of 2026, April 8</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Class of 2027, April 15</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Class of 2028, April 22</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The initial Class of 2029 rankings will be posted sometime before the next school year begins. Unfortunately for her and her Hays' teammates, their undefeated season ended with a first-round loss to the eventual champion St. Thomas Aquinas. She turned it on in the second half of the the loss. She is an explosive athlete. As of this post, she plays club ball with the Kansas United. I hope I get to see her compete this spring. I have heard through the grapevine, that this team is breaking up and several of their players are going to try out to play for MoKan. She is a talented scorer and helped guide Quinter to the Class 1A DI State Tournament. Quinter finished fourth in that tournament going 1-2. She scored 47 total points over three games in the tournament played in Dodge City. She was an honorable mention athlete on my All-Deck Team, which was released yesterday. She played more of a secondary role on the Panther's Class 6A Runner-Up squad. I have a feeling that she will develop into a dominant scorer when by the time her high school career is complete. She was half of a dangerous scoring combo for the Cougars as a freshman. She averaged 10.9 points per game and filled up her stat line with 4.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 steals per contest.
