PGH Freshman Showcase: Team 8 Evaluations

The 2029 Freshman Showcase was loaded, with 93 prospects taking the court on August 30th, 2025. Our format included 4 hours of games split up into predetermined 3v3 and 5v5 matchups. Let's talk about media exposure. There have been thousands of views on X of coverage provided by our scouts during the event, and our articles will be read by hundreds. Every participant will receive a write-up in our articles, which is something unique and special about the Prep Girls Hoops showcases. My coverage focused primarily on teams 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8. Here are a few highlights for each player from Team 8 below!    Teagan used a variety of dribble combinations to create space and handled the ball confidently with both hands. She demonstrated an understanding of where to be without the ball, cutting to open space on the offensive end. Teagan caught a pass with soft hands inside and made a perfect transfer to score with her left hand off two feet. She attacked through the lane with a dribble burst and earned a trip to the free-throw line. Teagan moved quickly on the ball to stop drives to the basket. She had a very effective day for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase, and I'm excited to follow her high school career at Grand Ledge.     Vanessa gave Team 8 a spark at the Freshman Showcase and made the hustle play of the day. She came sprinting towards the baseline chasing after a loose ball, leaped out of bounds, and sent my glasses and hat flying in the process! Gotta love that kind of effort! She used a quick rip move to get by a defender and dumped the ball to a teammate for the assist. Vanessa closed out hard to force a missed shot and pressured opposing ball-handlers in the back court. She pursued rebounds on both ends and shot the ball with confidence, draining a perimeter jumper. Kingston is adding a skilled ball-handler to their backcourt, and she's going to make an immediate impact this winter.     Saamyia was an explosive playmaker for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase. She chased the ball all over the court on defense, causing turnovers and missed shots. Saamyia changed directions suddenly with her quick crossover dribbles and accelerated through gaps to score layups. She has a smooth pull-up jumper and is going to be an exciting point guard prospect to watch at East Kentwood this winter.     Irelynn might be a 2030, but she didn't show an ounce of timidity on the court. She was a playmaker for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase. Irelynn caught a pass and accelerated down the baseline with a dribble burst to score a soft floater off two feet. Irelynn penetrated a gap again with a shifty crossover move to score another layup and buried a wing three. I'm sure Irelynn is going to tear it up during her school season, and I'll be looking for her on the travel circuit next spring!     Elliot contributed on both ends of the court for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase. She's a competitor who works hard and doesn't take plays off. Elliot shot the ball with confidence from the perimeter and made a smart extra pass to an open teammate in transition. She used a shot fake to freeze her defender, drove by, and dropped in a tough floater off the glass. Elliot crashed the boards on both ends and is going to be a great addition to the Jackson Northwest basketball program.     Brinley gave Team 8 an edge with her toughness at the Freshman Showcase. She moved well laterally on defense and worked hard to keep her girl from driving to the basket. Brinley took the ball downhill with determination off the dribble to cause a foul and buried her free throw with a confident follow-through. She muscled her way into position to secure rebounds and played with physicality. Brinley is a versatile player who will be an impactful player for Flat Rock at the high school level.     Kenzie plays in a higher gear on the court, and her aggressive style made a difference for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase. She split defenders using a quick sweep move and accelerated to the basket for a contested layup. Kenzie stretched the defense by throwing strong skip passes to open teammates and immediately looked to push the tempo after grabbing defensive rebounds. After beating her defender with a crossover dribble, she earned a trip to the free-throw line and knocked it down. Kenzie is going to be a dynamic addition to the Kenowa Hills program.     Alyssa has athleticism and abilities that stand out on the court. She had a great day for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase. Alyssa glided to the hoop off the dribble, avoiding defenders using fancy footwork, and finished many shots around the basket. Alyssa anticipated passes and used her quick hands to create steals on the defensive end. She handled the ball confidently with both hands and chased down missed shots to grab offensive rebounds. DEPSA has another outstanding prospect coming to the program this winter.     Payton has length and versatility that will make her a productive player for Fowlerville over the coming years. She showed her perimeter range by drilling a corner three. Payton swiped the ball away, closed out quickly on shooters, and dished a great kickout pass for the assist. She made a great backdoor cut to the basket and caught the pass with soft hands. Payton had a solid day for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase.     Vivian has length, quickness, and potential for Armada to be excited about. She contributed in multiple areas for Team 8 at the Freshman Showcase. Vivian worked hard to deny passes into the low post and maintain good defensive positioning. She blocked a shot attempt, anticipated a miss, and sprinted in to grab the offensive rebound. Vivian jumped into the passing lane to deflect a pass, causing a turnover, and sprinted up the court in transition to give teammates a scoring option. She's going to be a prospect to follow in the BWAC over the next four years.
