The offseason in high school basketball is only one in name only as there is still plenty happening throughout the spring and summer months.

Obviously, AAU ball is taking place in April, May and July. June is reserved primarily for high school team camps. Top prospects are being scouted and offered by coaches.

Another occurrence of every offseason is when a few players enter the transfer “portal” and are wearing a different uniform and colors than they did the previous season.

Transfers can allow teams to maintain contender status – or it can allow middle-of-the-road assemblings to ascend to contender status. Without further ado, here are a few of the names that will be sporting different threads when we tip off in November.

If one is a fan of SCISA 4A Northside Christian, one may wince when watching games involving 5A Division 1 River Bluff. The Gators entered themselves into the contenders' chat in a big way by hiring Northside Christian's former coach and having three of its players transfer to River Bluff. Godfrey is one of that trio. Her team was one of the many that took part in the SC Live Camp at Riverview Park in North Augusta and will be one of many on hand at South Carolina's camp in a few days. Godfrey was one of the many reasons why the Crusaders put together the stellar season it did – she averaged 18.7 points, 5.8 steals and 4.4 assists last season.

In Tifre's case, her sporting the River Bluff colors is a re-introduction of her to the Gators' faithful. If River Bluff wanted to make a statement to the rest of the state that the Gators will be a force to be reckoned with, it did so by going 4-0 at the Live Camp at Riverview Park. Tifre is wearing the Team Unleashed South Carolina uniform during her final season on the AAU circuit. She is a double-double possibility on a game-by-game basis as she averaged 12 points and 10.9 rebounds in the 25 contests she played last season at SCISA 4A Northside Christian.

One more former Crusader would take her talents a bit further up Sunset Blvd. Childers has more experience under belt than the average rising freshman as she has played at the varsity level since she was a seventh grader. Last season for SCISA 4A Northside Christian, she averaged 10.3 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals in the 26 contests she played. She too runs on the club circuit with [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] as does Godfrey. She is a multi-sport athlete who has also participated in cross country events. Childers places a great deal of emphasis on taking care of the ball, finding open teammates, defense and knowing when to score and when to distribute.

For those that are aficionados of McMillan wearing [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] colors, they will become very accustomed to her sporting its red, white and blue colors. Following a storied career at 2A Fairfield Central, McMillan is bringing her many talents to the SCISA ranks at 4A Hammond. The Skyhawks sorely needed the jolt of energy McMillan will provide as they finished a woeful 1-16 in 2024-25 – its lone win was against Cardinal Newman. She too has also been playing in the varsity realm since she was a seventh grader and averaged 17.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in what turned out to be her final season with the Griffins.

Following back-to-back 3A state championships, Camden was denied a berth at a third consecutive state ring thanks to Westside in last season's 4A Upper State playoffs. As the kids say nowadays, the Bulldogs want their “lick back” and Alexander is sure to help greatly as she enters her final season in the high school ranks. Alexander's high school career has included stops at Legion Collegiate and Andrew Jackson – where she was part of the 2023-24 state championship team. Alexander averaged a double-double of 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds plus 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game to lead last season's Lancers to a 22-13 record and she recently landed an offer from North Carolina Central University.

The Red Raiders of 5A Division 2 Greenville had a banner season last year, advancing all the way to the Upper State championship game. How do the Red Raiders become even more dangerous? By adding one of the most skilled playmakers in the Palmetto State. A product of the AEBL Girlz 16U program, Assemian joins Greenville after a stellar 2024-25 at 3A Powdersville. The 6-foot-1 frontcourt stalwart played in 28 games last season with the Patriots and averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals. That 5A Division 2 crown that was claimed by Berkeley last season? Assemian and her Red Raiders want it.

Legion Collegiate will rejoin the SCHSL this season but will not be playoff-eligible. That can have a domino effect in terms of transfers in the short-term. Alexander and Murrell are two examples and Garvin is another as she will wear the uniform of 5A Division 2 Nation Ford in 2025-26. Garvin also previously played at Catawba Ridge. She can give a team productive minutes as either a one or a two in the backcourt. Her defense can make opposing ball handlers turnover-prone, enabling her or a teammate to come away with the rock. A 3-point shot is also part of her offensive repertoire.

Speaking of former Legion Collegiate standouts transferring to 4A state powers, Murrell will be sporting South Pointe Stallions red this season meaning that she and Alexander will become well-acquainted with each other as opponents given South Pointe and Camden are region rivals. Murrell adds to the depth the Stallions will present this season in the painted area and will definitely bolster South Pointe's rebounding efforts. She averaged eight rebounds and 7.2 points per game last season for the Lancers. Her addition could be what South Pointe needs to finally grab the brass ring it has been denied the last few seasons.

Local transfers are more common than those that occur cross-state.
Assemian is not the only notable name from last season's 3A Powdersville team in search of greener pastures with another school. Instead of wearing Patriots red, white and blue this coming season, Bryant will be in blue and gold threads at 4A Wren. She departs from a team that finished 20-8 and heads to one that concluded last season at 18-10. Bryant possesses more experience than most freshmen given she already has played a pair of varsity seasons. She will be a huge lift for the Hurricanes following a 2024-25 where she averaged 15.6 points, 4.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and three steals for the Patriots.

Those watching Williams in 2025-26 will be very used to the familiar blue she has worn. Only the gold will be missing. Williams is making a massive shift from 5A Division 1 Sumter all the way down to North in the 1A ranks. One can possibly see why the Eagles caught an interested eye from Williams – North finished 18-9 last season and were 1A Upper State participants last season. Between joining her new high school team, joining FBC Next Up Lady Wolves on the grassroots circuit and the recent offer she landed from Denmark Tech, Williams has had a busy offseason. The 5.6 rebounds she averaged last season for the Gamecocks was third on last season's team.
