About Aaliyah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’d describe my game as aggressive but smart. I play with a high motor and a calm mindset, especially when the game gets intense. I’m strong in transition, I like to finish through contact, and I use my size to guard multiple positions. I can handle the ball, knock down mid-range shots, and read the floor well. I lead by example and stay locked in every play.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I stay focused on the bigger picture. I’m competitive, but I’m also coachable, I listen, I learn, and I adjust. I don’t get too high or too low; I stay steady and let my work speak. I love to win, but more than anything, I love to get better. I’m quiet at times, but I’m locked in, and when it’s time to show up, I do.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Outside of basketball, I stay focused on school and doing things the right way. I’ve received character and academic recognition over the years, and I was honored to be named an Honorable Mention in the WCAC as a freshman. I’m not in a lot of clubs, but I take pride in showing up every day with consistency and effort — whether it’s in the classroom or on the court.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed as a leader by being consistent, coachable, and always putting the team first. I lead by example, bring energy, and support my teammates. I’ve also done community service through my team, which reminds me to stay grounded and give back.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Transferring from St. Mary’s Ryken to Bishop Ireton will be a challenge I’m working through right now. I’m adjusting to a new system, building chemistry with new teammates, and proving myself in a different environment. It pushes me to stay focused, keep growing, and show who I am every time I step on the court.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that feels like home — somewhere with a strong basketball program, coaches who believe in developing players, and good team culture. I also want a school where I can get a good education and be supported in the classroom. I’m just looking for the right fit where I can grow as a player and a person.

Aaliyah has a smooth, composed game on both ends of the floor. Her combination of height and ball-handling ability allows her to function effectively as a combo guard. She showed flashes of getting to the basket and scoring creatively, but her defensive impact stood out the most. Aaliyah is capable of guarding positions one through four in the open court with ease, and in the half court her length makes her especially disruptive, as she consistently takes away space and passing lanes.
