Stewart is a tough, high-motor basketball player who plays an important role in everything Belleville does offensively and defensively. She consistently impacts the game through her ability to knock down shots, rebound the basketball on both ends of the floor, and defend at a high level.
What made her performance even more enjoyable to watch was learning that she recently returned from an injury that kept her sidelined last season. Seeing her back on the floor competing with confidence and energy alongside her teammates spoke volumes about her resilience and work ethic. Stewart finished the night with 14 points, providing steady production and toughness throughout the game.

Layla has quickness, length, polished skills, and the instincts of a true point guard prospect. She separated herself with Belleville at the LBI Mitten Opening and is going to be moving up in our next rankings update as a result. Layla kept hands active on defense to create steals, jumped into the passing lanes, and applied heavy pressure on the perimeter to force turnovers. She attacked off the dribble in top gear and used a smooth high pick-up move to finish the layup. Layla used textbook footwork to maintain good defensive positioning in transition and force a missed shot without fouling. She finished layups well off two feet, converted an acrobatic floater, and drained three-pointers with confidence. Layla is about to have a huge year for the Tigers.

Stewart is an elite talent that looks like she can and will be a national recruiting target. She already holds a Central Michigan offer. Stewart has a mature game that looks way beyond that of a freshman. Her handles allow her to manipulate the defense and get the ball to it’s spots. Stewart does a nice job moving the ball and then being ready to fire when it swings back.

made headlines during the summer when she received a D1 offer from CMU and she lived up to the hype in her first season of Varsity basketball. Layla earned All Catholic Honor Team recognition, helped Orchard Lake St. Mary’s finish the regular season with a 21-0 record, win a CHSL AA Division title, and a district championship–as a freshman. She scored a game high 24 points in their district finals win against Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood, knocking down three triples in the first quarter. Layla catches the ball in rhythm and lets it fly from downtown with balance, a quick release, and deadly precision. She has the handles to move defenders with her dribble and create shots off the drive or dish to open teammates. Layla is a special talent and guard prospect in the mitten.
