Nyla Barnes Nyla Barnes 5'2" | PG Decatur Central | 2027 IN made a strong impression this spring with her athleticism, confidence, and ability to create offense. Barnes plays with a fearless mentality and consistently pressured defenses with her quickness and downhill attacking ability. She was effective in transition and did a great job creating opportunities for herself and teammates throughout the AAU season.

Barnes also showed noticeable growth as a decision-maker and floor leader this spring. She looked more comfortable controlling possessions, reading defenders, and making plays under pressure. Defensively, she brought energy and intensity that helped change momentum in games. Her ability to impact the game on both ends, combined with her continued offensive development, makes her one of the more intriguing point guards in Indiana’s 2027 class moving forward.

This was my first time seeing Nyla in action in almost a year, and she has done a nice job of improving her overall game. She has always been an accurate shooter, and she definitely did that during the action I saw. Additionally, she is quick and athletic, she is handling the ball a lot more, acting as true point guard, and she is consistently getting her team into their offense. I really hope colleges don’t get stuck on her height, because she definitely has something she can add to successful small college lineups.

Nyla is a nice little guard who does a variety of things on the floor. She can act as a traditional point guard, get gaps, and distribute, but she’s also an accurate perimeter shooter who can find shots using teammates’ screens. After seeing limited action in 19 games a year ago, I’d look for her to be a much bigger part of the rotation as a Junior, especially if they can find her opportunities to put pressure on opposing defenses from outside.
