These girls listed are the ones that I have gotten a chance to watch. There are a ton of freshmen that have been terrific early, not just the ones listed.
Sabrina Anderson Sabrina Anderson 5’8″ | PG Potomac School | 2027 State VA is the player I had the chance to watch the most before entering high school. I’m not shocked in the slightest at how well she’s played. Sabrina is the leading scorer at 16.3 PPG on a great Potomac School team. She has been consistent in this early season, and her commitment to the defensive side of the ball has been so fun to watch. Sabrina has shot the ball efficiently from three and has been an absolute star. She’s going to be a big-time player for the next four years.
Grace Ellingson Grace Ellingson 5'7" | SG Gainesville HS | 2027 State VA

Grace Ellingson Grace Ellingson 5’7″ | SG Gainesville HS | 2027 State VA has been a big surprise to me. She’s been up and down, so her numbers aren’t eye-popping, but she has had some impressive performances. She opened up the season against Massaponax, putting in 14 points, then a few games later poured in 20 in a rout over Battlefield. Grace is an excellent spot-up shooter, and like the rest of this Gainesville squad, she’s a very willing defender. This is a deep team that she’s carved out a role on, and that is very impressive for someone who’s a freshman.
Outside of a couple of players, April Winfield April Winfield 5’5″ | CG Hopewell | 2027 State VA has been as impressive as any guard in the state. Her athleticism and ability to get to the rim have been high-level. She’s been perfect in every game she’s played and has shown no signs of being a freshman. She’s averaging a touch over 20 points and close to 60% shooting from the field. She’s so skilled with the ball in her hands and really tough to stop in the open court. She and Erin Edmonds Erin Edmonds 5’9″ | CG Hopewell | 2025 State VA are as good as any backcourt duo in the state.
Highlights
Most people are already aware of how good Micah Ojo Micah Ojo 6’1″ | PF Princess Anne | 2027 State VA is. She already has high-level D1 offers and is the number one ranked freshman in the state. But even with that, she exceeded my expectations. Micah does it all at 6’2. She is a tremendous defender, an elite rebounder, and a knockdown shooter. Micah had a quadruple double earlier in the year with points, rebounds, assists and steals. She is an exceptional basketball player and a dominant force all over the court.
Ellery Giddens Ellery Giddens 5’8″ | PG Norfolk Christian | 2027 State VA leads a very unique Norfolk Christian team. This team is filled with freshmen and Sophomores, and they’re still an excellent squad. Ellery is their leading scorer and has been super impressive. Ellery has ideal size and does a great job playing either guard position. She is a super complete player and competes on defense. Justice Brown-Jones Justice Brown-Jones 6’1″ | CG Norfolk Christian | 2027 State VA is another Freshman to watch for on this team.
