EDITORS NOTE: While we are tracking the player movement that is now common in high school, and factoring that into coverage, we might have missed a move or two. Sorry!

District 1: Will the streak continue?

El Reno finished up a storybook season with an undefeated record by running roughshod over Class 5A and many of their victories coming in the double figures. They will lean on returning starters [player_tooltip player_id='315196' first='Lilly' last='Thomas'] and [player_tooltip player_id='315203' first='Raegan' last='Bugaj']. Thomas is one of the top post players in Oklahoma, with an amazing combination of size and feel. With her shooting ability from the perimeter and a force around the basket, she's simply a match up problem. Especially as she has strong vision and can create for her teammates. Speaking of creating for teammates, that's a role that fellow senior Bugaj will have to step up and help more this season. Based on this summer during grassroots play, the sharpshooting Bugaj looks ready to be more of a complete guard for the Lady Indians. Which will be needed with the target El Reno now carries on their backs.

The chief rival for the top spot will come on the other side of I40 in OKC with Carl Albert. The Titans saw a bit of roster turnover but are led by one of the fastest rising 2026s in Oklahoma, [player_tooltip player_id='578039' first='Audrey' last='Plunkett']. The long arm wing-forward prospect is an athletic force, who can do it all on the court. She looks to be on the verge of stardom and helping Carl Albert win District 1 would be a good step in that direction. Helping Plunkett is a fellow junior, [player_tooltip player_id='574166' first='Jakary' last='Brown']. The scoring guard has displayed strong shooting and scoring ability this summer, and is another player set up to take a "junior year leap". Keep an eye on freshman [player_tooltip player_id='913548' first='Jordyn' last='Richardson'], who has the tools to make an immediate impact the 5A level.

A third contender in District 1 hails from the 580, Lawton MacArthur. They'll be led by strong, athletic and versatile wing-forward [player_tooltip player_id='620405' first='Alysa' last='Mack']. She can play bully ball around the rim, or break out good quickness and finesse to avoid defenders. The Lady Highlanders also have promising sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='881528' first='Mia' last='Hughes']. Hughes impressed last year with great feel for a freshman, while also being quick and all around point guard. Teams in District 1 won't enjoy their trip down to I44 with Mack and Hughes forming a tough one-two punch.

District 2: Mid-Del Clash at the top?

District 2 sets up to have bitter rivals at the top of the card, with Midwest City and Del City. Del City were State Tournament qualifiers last years, signaling a strong step forward for their program. They are anchored by one of the fastest rising prospects in Oklahoma, senior center [player_tooltip player_id='802036' first='Shelby' last='Thornton']. She's added a deep list of D1 offers this summer and will be a gamechanger in the paint. Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1050414' first='Sacha' last='Hunt'] provides a scoring punch from the backcourt with quickness and a quality three point shot. Look for athletic freshman [player_tooltip player_id='917364' first='Jaciah' last='McCalister'] to have a chance to provide depth and an impact this winter as well.

Guard play will be crucial for the Lady Bombers, especially as they replace super productive forward De'Yanna Douglass. Expected to step up for the Lady Bombers is an exciting group of 2026 guards, [player_tooltip player_id='847006' first='Sevyn' last='Miller'], [player_tooltip player_id='847028' first='Kenadi' last='Downer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1167390' first='Ceidi' last='Johnson']. They also have senior [player_tooltip player_id='315227' first='Mar'kia' last='Pratt'] guard, who caught the eye this summer thanks to her quick first step and overall speed. A freshman who could make an early impact is wing [player_tooltip player_id='913615' first='Bailee' last='Guthery'].

The fly in the oinment for the two Mid-Del school district programs comes only a few miles north in 5A newcomer Classen SAS. The talent level has run deep in recent years for the Lady Comets, with national rankings, a McDonalds All American, and a 2022 4A State Championship. They're entering a new chapter in their program with Rick Vick as the new head coach. Vick had been a key assistant during the SAS's amazing recent run. The preseason coach's poll has SAS slotted in as 10th in 5A already, so it won't be much of a shock if the Lady Comets led by rising junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='578033' first='Makiya' last='Moore'] quickly adapt to 5A and challenge for the District 2 title.
