Today is the release day of the first set of numbered rankings for the 2028 Class throughout Iowa. From a quick look, this Class is one of the deepest that we have seen in quite sometime throughout the state in recent history. In this Class alone we debatably have 10-15 prospects that could compete at the Division-1 in some capacity following their high school careers. In this piece we highlight the Top Five prospects out of this Class and we discuss what each of them can bring to the table over the next four years.

[player_tooltip player_id='643486' first='Jhaliana' last='Guy'] debuts as the headliner for the 2028 Class as the #1 overall prospect. Guy is a guard that currently possesses over 23 Power-5 offers to compete at the next level and she is only 1 game into her Varsity High School career. The mixture of athletic ability, situational awareness, and smarts that she has are already next level. When you pair that along with her uniformed shooting ability from any distance, her crafty handle, and her unselfishness to make the others around her better, you start to see why this is someone that has interest from almost every D1 program in Country at the moment. The high school career is a marathon with a ton of ups and downs. Guy's future potential right now is limitless, so let's just sit back and see where she can take things.

Coming in at #2 in this 2028 Update is the only other prospect out of the Freshman Class with a current Division-1 offer and that is CG - [player_tooltip player_id='883552' first='Braylyn' last='Birmingham'] of Norwalk High School and [program_tooltip program_id='712377' first='All' last='Iowa Attack'] EYBL AAU. Birmingham shines right now because of her mixture of length, a high motor, and her pure skill-set. What has really stood out about Birmingham to kick off her Freshman season so far is her passing ability. She is averaging near 4.5 APG through two games and though it's a small sample size, it's still really impressive. Currently it's obvious that this is the correct spot for Birmingham going into the heart of her Freshman season. Anything can happen moving forward but I'm sure that no matter what, this is someone who is going to produce over the next 3.5 years as we observe her on the Varsity floor. Everytime I've watched her in person she is impactful and not just because of the number she produces on both ends.

When you look at the other players on this Top Five list, [player_tooltip player_id='880903' first='Addie' last='McLaughlin'] is someone that stands out as one of the most skilled from a PG/SG standpoint. McLaughlin's ability is natural. That's the best way to describe it for someone that her never seen her compete. She has a fluid shooting stroke that always looks steady and on target, her ability to create passing lanes and hit open teammates in stride is eye-opening, and she understands how to control the game when the ball is in her possession. Not to mention, she is a hell of a teammate. I've never spoken to a coach or teammate of her's that has had a bad things to say. It's going to be fun to watch McLaughlin grow and mature over her career. If she continues to get better as time goes on, she is going to be a killer that everyone in the Midwest is aware of before you know it.

Waukee NW is going to be on the rise over the next few seasons and that became obvious last Winter with who they brought to the Varsity floor. This time around, another player who should be impactful to some degree at the Varsity level at the guard position is their Freshman - [player_tooltip player_id='1092007' first='Sadie' last='McCann']. McCann is an elite athlete with a high motor, a better than average ability to rebound the ball, and she always seems to come up in big moments for whoever she is lacing up with. Like everyone else in this article, her progression will play a huge role moving forward but at this time, she comes in at our #4 spot for her 2028 Class.

Rounding out our Top Five for this Class is a guard that is a controller of tempo, while being an excellent leader in all facets of the game and that is [player_tooltip player_id='957840' first='Savanna' last='Wright'] of Mount Vernon High School. Wright is a next level PG, that is going to go places because of this sport. Her ability to create for herself or others off the dribble is second to none already and she is still very young in her basketball journey. Her ability to shoot with a balanced base helps her knock down buckets off both the catch or dribble. While her smart decision-making creates tough situations for anyone that is trying to defend her. She isn't the type to over-complicate things and that is noteworthy for someone at this age level. This Class has a lot of solid prospects and a number of players could have taken this #5 spot but for now it belongs to Wright.
