P2W MI Jam Live 3v3: Starting Five Fever Bracket

These five prospects were consistent difference-makers during Pool Play and in the Fever Bracket Championship Tournament. I wanted to take a different approach than my usual process when doing an "All-Tournament Team" or "All-Showcase Team". Michigan Jam Live 3v3 was a different event, so I wanted to do something different by recognizing players from all different teams. I decided not to select more than one player from the same team in this starting five article. I will be doing many more write-ups of players who caught my attention throughout the day, so not being included in this list does not mean there weren't girls worthy of being selected to an all-event first team from the same team. I believe this method of selecting players from different teams captures the spirit of the event, which was to offer a unique experience, a fun format for all of the teams, and highlight key players from different high school programs. Remember when Mia led Mio to the Fever Bracket Championship Game at Michigan Jam? From start to finish, she was dialed in. Mia bulldozed her way to the rim on physical drives and finished with excellent touch in traffic. She chased down rebounds and battled to defend the post. Some highlights from the Championship Game included: inside-out drive-and-layup, corner three, drives and absorbs contact for a finish off two, backdoor cut catch, switch to left finish off two, powerful drive left finish, spin move left and-one straight through the net, and a slot three off the dribble. Earlier in the tournament, Mia used her shoulder to get the defender off their spot and buried a smooth straightaway three off the dribble; she drained two deep bombs from the slot and only needed a foot of space to get her rhythmic release off with balance. Mia did a great job of kicking the ball out to her teammates, and they were solid as a group throughout the day. Based on what I saw of Mio's squad and how they played against elite teams, I'm convinced that they have a unit with the skill, toughness, and chemistry to support their superstar, which is why I believe Mio is the Pre-Season favorite to win the D4 Championship next March. Mia announced her commitment to High Point yesterday and will be a fantastic addition to their program.     Midland plays like one on both ends of the floor, whether it's 3v3 or 5v5 basketball. Their chemistry, full-throttle defensive effort, and elite talent separated them on the court, leading to a Michigan Jam Live 3v3 Fever Bracket Championship. Ella received recognition as the Fever Bracket MVP, turning in an outstanding two-way performance from start to finish. She knocked down open threes, set screens to free up teammates, and caught passes with good hands, then accelerated to the hoop for determined layups. In the Championship Game, Ella's defense was critical to the win. I wrote down "good contest" many times. Whether it was a fast closeout on perimeter shots or walling up and moving her feet to defend drives, she forced misses that helped Midland put the game away. Ella drove by with a burst to score a strong and-one, finished efficiently at the rim, buried a wing three, blitzed a guard to force a turnover on defense, and handled the ball with poise. Ella committed to Saginaw Valley State yesterday, and they are getting two GLIAC all-conference-caliber guards in the twins. Midland will be a team competing for an SVL Championship and more this winter.     Leah was expected to be a mismatch for opponents coming into Michigan Jam Live 3v3, and that's exactly what she was. She kept her foot on the gas all day and played in a higher gear, making plays on both ends consistently for Eisenhower. Leah gave the team a perimeter threat, sinking a smooth corner three and another triple from the wing. She put a defender through a spin cycle in the paint and finished with a forward pivot off two feet. Leah attacked gaps to get to the free-throw line, knocked them down, scored drive-by layups, and added a strong and-one after securing the offensive board. I wrote down "blow-by layup" multiple times for Leah, and she definitely excelled in the 3v3 format. Eisenhower made a Breslin Center appearance last year, and they have the talent to make it back again this winter.     West Catholic is a consistent D2 powerhouse to make a deep playoff run and this year is going to be no different. They brought four next-level prospects to the gym at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 and were a solid unit throughout the day. Kenley separated herself as one of the best prospects on the court, and she's going to be the court general for the Falcons again this winter. Kenley impressed me with her consistency, poise, toughness, and complete performance. She was money from three-point range, sinking multiple step-back threes off shifty crossover dribbles and many more off the catch from different spots around the arc. Kenley made excellent entry passes into the post and put on a footwork clinic in the paint. Defensively, she flipped her hips quickly, turning to sprint, which cut off straight-line drives. How do you respond to adversity? In a physical game, Kenley answered the bell and stepped up for her team. She was a strong rebounder, slashed to the rim with determination to score multiple layups in traffic with her right and left, powered through contact on a hard drive for an and-one bucket with her off-hand, and drilled a cold-blooded step-back three. Her gutsy defense, toughness, and all-around effort were separators on the court.     Powers Catholic was another team that competed at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 and made it to the Breslin Center last year, and they're a preseason favorite to make it back. The Chargers brought four prospects to the event who all already have or will have college offers by the time they graduate. Evah was one of the elite forward prospects in the gym, and she delivered a complete performance for Powers Catholic. Her physicality, athleticism, and non-stop motor immediately stand out. Evah attacked downhill with determination, driving confidently off the dribble, and earning many trips to the free-throw line. She secured rebounds, picked off passes from the help side, scored with her right and left, finished strong off two feet, and kicked the ball to open shooters for assists after collapsing the defense. Evah made a complete impact and will create a major matchup problem for opponents again this winter.
