During the two years that 5A was split into two divisions, Berkeley was the team to beat in both seasons. Coach Crystal Peace’s Stags are fresh off going back-to-back at state and McCray tallied eight points to aid Berkeley’s cause in this past season’s championship game against Greenville at Colonial Life Arena. A veteran standout who also partakes in volleyball, McCray averaged nine points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game in 2025-26. McCray first began playing at the high school varsity level as a seventh grader and can give a team productive minutes either as a three or in the backcourt as a shooting guard. 

Good things happen for McCray when she is in Florence. She was an All-Tournament recipient for the inaugural Passion Driven Showcase – one of two from Team Goodson. Last season concluded with her Berkeley team winning the 5A Division 2 championship at the Florence Center. She is a two-sport athlete who also plays volleyball and is a prospect whose primary positions are as a point guard and a small forward. After all, she has the ball-handling skills of a one but the rebounding prowess of someone who plays the three. McCray competed in 26 games last season and averaged 8.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals a contest for the now-defending champion Stags. 

McCray’s athletic accomplishments include those in volleyball as well as basketball. McCray added a significant hoops accolade to her sporting resume when she contributed a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead her Stags to a 60-54 victory over Greenwood to claim this season’s 5A Division 2 crown. McCray also sent out four assists. She has competed at the varsity level ever since she was a seventh grader – before Berkeley was the state power it is currently. McCray in many ways is a symbol of where the Stags are as a team – it is a young team that plays like seasoned veterans. She and her Berkeley assembling will have the opportunity to put their stamp on the state’s basketball landscape for the next several seasons. 

Where do you play her on the floor? It doesn’t matter you just play her wherever you have to. Amani brings great versatility with her ability to play anywhere from 1-3 positions at times. She handles the rock up the floor on several occasions. She really likes to play on the ball at times and then brings the ability to play out on the wing. Amani generally does what is needed for the Lady Stags need her to do. McCray excels in the transition game and getting buckets up and down the floor. She rebounds the ball well from her position on the floor.
