We brought back an event that we had been doing since 2014 that many top players from the DMV and beyond have played in. The Family Reunion is an event that we use to bring the community together at the end of the summer season so the players can have fun competing with and against other top players. The goal for the day is to compete and have fun without worrying about being in front of college scouts and evaluators, even though those people show up. The line-up consists of four games, with one of them being the High School Showdown. This year we had the class of 2027 challenging 2026 in a matchup of two deep classes. The class of 2027 came out on top in a very competitive game. Here are my notes from the 2027 players.

[player_tooltip player_id='433964' first='Brooklyn' last='Stewart'], Roland Park, 2027, Guard

Brooklyn came to play on both ends of the floor. She was up on any ball handler she came in contact with. She set the tone early that there would be no "All Star" game vibes. She has deep range on her shot and showed that off, and she was also comfortable running a little point guard when necessary.

[player_tooltip player_id='788072' first='Kayden' last='McDaniel'], Glenelg Country School. 2027, Guard

Kayden showed up to prove that she belongs in this conversation with some of the top guards in her class and she did that. Her craftiness with the ball and ability to create space were on full display. She's a three-level scorer and exceptional athlete with a strong IQ. She turned a lot of heads in this one.

[player_tooltip player_id='791216' first='London' last='Elliott'], Poly, 2027, Point Guard

Another talented guard from this deep class and she put on a show as well. Her speed separates her from her peers as she is really fast with the ball. She has a knack for making highlight reel finishes in traffic and she does a great job of getting the ball up the court quickly by dribble or pass.

[player_tooltip player_id='785457' first='Jada' last='Russell'], McDonogh, 2027, Guard

Jada had a solid game. She looked like her usual calm and collected self, taking what the defense gave her and either knocking down shots or making the right read and feeding her teammates. She can move between both guards spots seamlessly.

[player_tooltip player_id='897827' first='Jaelyn' last='Peters'], Spalding, 2027, Wing

My biggest takeaway from watching Jaelyn was that we do not know what her best position will ultimately be, but she is going to thrive in whatever role she ends up in. She has transferred to Spalding in the IAAM so it will be interesting to see how she adjusts. She is versatile with some good size and showed us she is able to play away from the basket as well as in the paint. Keep an eye on her.

Alyna (Lala) Rachmat-Jones, Paul VI, 2027, Point Guard

Lala was in her usual form, showing off the perimeter skills by draining some long bombs and hitting teammates off with some nice passes. A true floor general, she kept her composure and made great decisions. Always a pleasure to watch her compete.

[player_tooltip player_id='786431' first='Mya' last='Clark'], McDonogh, 2027, Wing

Mya showed off her full bag in this game. She knocked down some threes, broke some ankles off the dribble and showed off some impeccable footwork in the post area. I'm not going to lock her into one position at this point. Let's just watch her evolve and enjoy the show. Her length and height is a problem for defenders but she looked good using her speed to blow by smaller players. She played with a lot of confidence.

[player_tooltip player_id='941078' first='Kiri' last='Faimanifo'], McDonogh, 2027, Power Forward

Kiri showed that she can be a force on the boards. She's big and has good instincts and timing. She made some nice shots in the paint. She should fit seamlessly into McDonogh's rotation.

[player_tooltip player_id='820854' first='Maya' last='Chase'], Pikesville, 2027, Guard

Maya came out ready to compete from the time she stepped on the court. She is a polished scorer and I like how she attacked the basket and powered up off two feet on her finishes.

[player_tooltip player_id='785460' first='Cayenne' last='Pigeon'], St. John's Catholic ,2027, Guard

Cayenne was a late addition to the roster but that did not bother her one bit. She showed up and put on a show, walking away with the Player of the Game award for her team. She showed off her scoring arsenal from inside and out set up her teammates with some dimes. She's making a name for herself in this loaded class.
