PGH Expo: Ball Handlers

The Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Expo was an impressive collection of talent. There were many players with a variety of skill sets for coaches to see. We're going to take a closer look at some of the impressive ball handlers that were seen at The Expo.    Vrooks-Foster was a highlight player at the event and had the look of an elite ball handler, not just at the event, but in the state and probably beyond that. Brooks-Foster was creative with her ball handling, but always under complete control.     Balhorn was an explosive ball handler. Her crossover had defenders stumbling. Balhorn was able to cross her opponent, draw the defense and dish to her teammates.     Ryan showed that she could put the ball on the floor. She had an ability to find small lanes to the rim and squeeze them with a right handed take.     Porter proved that she could attack off the bounce. She kept a low base, took a straight line right drive and finished it with efficiency.     Straub was impressive as always and her ball handling definitely stood out. She's quite frankly just more athletic than most on her way to the rim. Straub was hard to handle when she got downhill with the ball.     When strength and footwork combine, you get [player_tooltip player_id='734976' first='Jaila' last='Martin']. She put the ball on the ground with her right and made plays, both scoring and drawing the D.     Brumfield was just dangerous with the ball. She was a sneaky ball handler that created space and was able to touch the paint off the bounce. I'm a huge fan of the inside-out dribble and Brumfield used it with perfection.     Macavage had herself a day and a part of that was the way that she handled the ball. I was most impressed when she showed that she could work the baseline off the bounce. Macavage took the ball under the rim and finished with a reverse layup.     Obande had an eye-popping performance and was so strong with the ball. She showed that she could advance the ball quickly off the rebound and pressure the D with her ball pace. Obande was creative with her handles and drew a handful of fouls because of it.     Meggisson handled the ball in Arbor Prep style - making plays in traffic while keeping the ball protected and not turning it over. She kept a low front shoulder and handled through contact on her way to the rim.     Coaches love when a player can handle the ball with speed. Enter [player_tooltip player_id='622562' first='Molly' last='Walker']. She exploded down the floor when the ball was in her hands and she was able to do it with efficiency.     I liked the way that Collins handled the ball. She had a nice combination of power and flare. Collins was able to put defenders on her hip and attack.     I really liked the way that Gamble looked to be aggressive with the ball. She was able to push pace and control the speed of the game with her handles.     Thelen just had so much control over the ball and her defender when it was in her hands. She controlled and moved defenders like puppets on a string. Thelen's ability to move the defense with her handles created space and opportunities.     Gayles certainly caught my attention at The Expo. We've talked about speed with the ball and Gayles has it for sure. She gets the ball, shoots out of a cannon and gets downhill.
