Tipping off January with a look at the top current teams in Oklahoma.

Records are up to date as of January 8th

10. Class 5A Del City 10-2

The Lady Eagles are ducking no smoke when it comes to non district play, with challenging showcase games and tournaments. Including a strong resume building tournament win at Norman's Joe Lawson tournament. Where they took down potential Class 6A State Tournament teams Owasso and Mustang. Those tests will continue this weekend as they travel north to the Conoco Arvest Invitational in Bartlesville. It should be a good tune up before a pivotal battle with District foe Bishop McGuinness on January 16th.

9. Class 4A Douglass 8-6

A heart breaking season opening loss and a tough out of state schedule has left Douglass with losses but also extremely battle tested. This was proven in their handling of rising Class 3A and Soul Bowl rivals Millwood. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='913706' first='Justice' last='Woods'] looked like a star in that win. Too quick, too skilled and too athletic, with acrobatic finishes and big time rebounds for guard. She's aided on the offensive front by the rapid development of [player_tooltip player_id='1325502' first='Darriana' last='Gates']. The athletic wing is one of the most improved players in Oklahoma and is shooting the ball with big time confidence.

8. Class 6A Edmond North 9-1

One of the top defensive teams in Oklahoma, only Deer Creek in the season opener has broken 50 points on them. Their only loss was a nail biter against super talented 5A squad Newcastle. The impressive development for the Lady Huskies comes in senior [player_tooltip player_id='525640' first='Grace' last='Jackson']. Who was red hot as a scorer at the Mustang Holiday Classic. If that is a sign of things to come for the senior guard, they have a formidable one-two scoring punch to lean on with fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='578026' first='Johari' last='Hall'].

7. Class 3A Washington 10-1

The defending Class 3A champs' only loss came to recent Tournament of Champions winner Dale. Since then they have continued to steamroll teams, including winning all three games at the prestigious Bertha Teague Classic by double digits. They have an outstanding blend of experienced seniors, SWOSU commit [player_tooltip player_id='578004' first='Kelby' last='Beller'] and recent UCO offer [player_tooltip player_id='572989' first='Preslee' last='Johnson']. Along with one of the top freshmen in Oklahoman, [player_tooltip player_id='1542324' first='Bentli' last='Brantley']. A smooth lefty, who recently received an offer from Mississippi State.

6. Class 4A Lincoln Christian 9-2

It's likely been quite a long time since Lincoln Christian has lost back to back games. But the ToC gauntlet tripped them up with 6A teams Union and Bixby taking them down on back to back nights. They rebounded by thrashing a fellow 918 private school, before they jump back into another challenging tournament. Their own, the Lincoln Christian Winter Classic. Potential match ups with 6A programs Sapulpa, Owasso, Jenks and Edmond North are on the horizon for this weekend.

5. Class 6A Bixby 9-3

The Spartans are one of the toughest teams to cover in the state because they are loaded with shooters. Their only in state loss came to the eventual ToC champs, Dale. And they bounced back the next night with a huge win over powerhouse program Lincoln Christian School. Their offensive firepower will be put to test on Tuesday the 13th, with a titanic district clash against Union.

4. Class 6A Union 8-4

The Lady Redhawks are a defensive powerhouse, with the sophomore Davis twins providing an extra dimensions. They ended Lincoln Christian's winning streak at the Tournament of Champions, before losing a narrow battle to Dale for the title game. Then district rivals Owasso tripped them up earlier this week. Along with the athletic twins, they have a deep backcourt with multiple players capable of stepping up and scoring double figures in any given game. Including strong recent performances from senior [player_tooltip player_id='579551' first='Whitney' last='Smith'] and junior [player_tooltip player_id='1352739' first='Demoia' last='Gater'].

3. Class 2A Dale 10-1

To close out 2025, the small town powerhouse became the first Class 2A squad to take home the Tournament of Champions title. During that run they took down 5A Carl Albert, 6A Bixby and 6A Union. Only an upset overtime loss against Millwood has held the Lady Pirates back from a perfect season. Their senior one-two punch is one of the most skilled duos on the state with guard [player_tooltip player_id='572456' first='Skylar' last='Anderson'] and forward [player_tooltip player_id='897488' first='Danika' last='Pendley'].

2. Class 5A Newcastle 10-2

Undefeated against Oklahoma competition, Newcastle finished 2025 as tournament champs of the Mustang Holiday Classic. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='913552' first='Kalani' last='Kindred'] has established herself as one of the best players in Oklahoma regardless of class. As she was the MVP of that tournament and was an one woman wrecking crew in a comeback win over 5A rivals Del City in December. With an amazing sophomore core, Newcastle is set up for long term success. They will be potentially tested on Monday, with a road trip to district rivals McGuinness.

1. Class 6A Putnam City North 13-1

The Lady Panthers continue to be the standard in Oklahoma girls high school basketball. Their only loss came to Nevada powerhouse Bishop Gorman. And their barnstorming schedule has seen them take down plenty of other top out of state squads. In a bit of a twist they were pushed by Muskogee, needing overtime to claim the road win. Considering how talented the Lady Panthers are, that game will likely just serve as a wake up call. As they have not lost to a fellow Oklahoma team since December of 2024.
