Class of 2027 Summer Watchlist: Part 1

As the summer season continues to unfold, Virginia's Class of 2027 is proving why it remains one of the most talented and intriguing groups in the region. Players across the state are making strong impressions, showcasing their skill sets, versatility, and ability to perform against high-level competition. This first part of my Summer Watchlist highlights prospects who are positioning themselves for bigger performances in July.    Winfield is a dynamic guard whose game is fueled by her scoring ability and overall offensive skill set. She creates scoring opportunities at all three levels, utilizing a smooth mid-range pull-up, reliable perimeter shooting, and crafty ball-handling to generate space off the dribble. She attacks the basket with confidence while also making an impact defensively, using her quickness, instincts, and nonstop energy to force turnovers and convert them into transition points.     Davis is a dominant three-level scorer who has the ability to take over games with her combination of skill, strength, and aggressiveness. She scores efficiently from all areas of the floor with a difficult-to-contest mid-range jumper, soft touch around the rim, and the ability to stretch defenses from beyond the arc. She impacts winning with her downhill attacks, physical finishing ability, transition play, and strong court vision, making her a matchup problem whenever she steps on the floor.     Martin is a versatile three-level scorer who combines strength, skill, and composure to produce on the offensive end. She attacks the basket under control, utilizing strong footwork, jump stops, and crafty finishes around the rim while also stretching defenses with her deep shooting range and quick catch-and-shoot ability. She complements her scoring with active defense, high IQ, and court awareness, allowing her to impact the game on both ends of the floor.     MacCalla is arguably one of the best wings in the country. She thrives in transition, attacks the basket with purpose, rebounds at a high level, and makes winning plays on both ends of the floor. Her combination of strength, explosiveness, and defensive versatility allows her to impact the game in a variety of ways, while her ability to attack downhill and finish through contact makes her difficult matchup for opposing defenses.     Giddens is a high-IQ guard who combines poise, strength, and shot-making ability to create offense. She makes herself available for the ball, protects it well under pressure, and has the patience to read the floor before attacking gaps, creating space, and getting to the basket. She is equally effective as a scorer or facilitator, using her physicality, decision-making, and perimeter shooting to impact the game in a variety of ways.     Banks impacts the game as both an elite scorer and playmaker. She controls the pace with confidence, using a tight handle and advanced creativity to break down defenders, navigate traffic, and create scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. Her ability to score at all three levels, anticipate plays before they develop, and lead with exceptional court awareness makes her an offensive threat and one of the most difficult matchups in the country.     Spain is a skilled three-level scorer whose elite shooting ability makes a constant threat every time she steps on the floor. She stretches defenses with deep range, is always ready to catch and shoot from beyond the arc, and has the ability to put the ball on the floor to create offense for herself. Her confidence, scoring versatility, and consistent production allow her to impact the game in both transition and half-court situations.     Spain is a dynamic scoring guard with a natural ability to produce offense. The left-hander is a pure shooter with deep range and a quick release, who is equally effective attacking off the dribble, using her penetration ability and finishing touch around the rim to keep defenders off balance. Her blend of scoring versatility, playmaking, and leadership allows her to impact the game in multiple ways, making her a problem whenever the ball is in her hands.     Smith is a versatile wing with athleticism, length, and physical tools. She excels in transition, attacks the rim with confidence, rebounds at a high level, and uses her explosiveness to alter shots defensively while guarding multiple positions. Herbert is a fundamentally sound forward whose combination of skill, toughness, and consistency makes her a reliable post player. She also impacts the game defensively with her length, rebounding, and versatility, showing the ability to protect the rim while matching up against multiple positions on the floor.     Wooten is a versatile guard whose size, skill set, and IQ allow her to impact the game in a variety of ways. She excels as both a scorer and facilitator, reading the floor well, controlling tempo, and creating opportunities for herself and her teammates. Her ability to rebound, defend multiple positions, and contribute across every facet of the game makes her a complete player.     Anderson is one of the best shooters in the Class of 2027, combining elite shot-making ability with deep range and exceptional scoring efficiency. She can stretch defenses from beyond the arc, attack off the dribble, and make plays in high-level, physical competition. Her confidence, production, and ability to impact winning make her one of the most dangerous guards in the country.     Ramey is a physical, high-motor scoring wing who impacts the game through her effort, rebounding, and offensive production. She thrives attacking downhill, embraces contact, and has a natural scoring instinct that allows her to create pressure on defenses while contributing in both transition and half-court sets. She crashes the boards, makes hustle plays, and maintains her effectiveness in a variety of roles.     Ojo is an elite two-way player whose combination of size, athleticism, and motor allows her to impact the entire game. She excels in transition, attacks the basket with purpose, rebounds at a high level, and embraces the challenge of guarding top opposing players while maintaining impressive offensive production. She plays with versatility, toughness, and the ability to take over games in critical moments.     Macauley is a poised combo guard whose shooting ability, court vision, and decision-making make her an effective offensive presence. She creates space with her perimeter shooting, moves well without the ball, and has the confidence to create her own offense. She is also a facilitator, delivering accurate passes in transition and the half-court while balancing scoring and playmaking responsibilities.     Evans is a skilled guard who plays with impressive patience and composure, allowing the game to develop before making her move. She handles the ball confidently on the perimeter, reads defenders well, and uses her shiftiness and change of pace to create separation and attack gaps in the defense. She creates quality scoring opportunities for herself, whether breaking down defenders off the dribble, getting to the basket, or knocking down shots from the perimeter.     Justice is a unique 6'2 playmaker whose combination of size, ball-handling ability, and scoring versatility creates matchup problems. She handles the ball like a guard, using advanced moves to break down defenders, create space on the perimeter, attack the paint, and finish over defenders while also knocking down shots from beyond the arc.
