A two-way threat at the guard position, Herron has no type of pause or stop in her game. She is quick, fast, and always head up, eyes up when she’s moving with the ball. She has strong touch around the rim and shows some craftiness as well. On the opposite end of the floor, she applies that same pressure defensively. A player to definitely follow as the AAU season goes along.

This was the first time getting an opportunity to watch Kayla Herron, and she did a great job representing the state of Illinois at a high level. Right away, her competitive edge stood out and was a key factor in how she impacted the game for IBC.

Herron brings a strong level of toughness and energy that helps set the tone for her team. She plays with a noticeable edge and consistently competes at a high level, which translates into winning plays on both ends of the floor.

Offensively, she is very fundamentally sound and understands how to play within structure while still being aggressive. Herron can score the basketball in a variety of ways — whether that’s in transition, coming off ball screens, or operating within dribble handoffs. Her ability to play as a scoring point guard makes her a constant threat and difficult to contain. Her balance of scoring ability, decision-making, and competitiveness makes it easy to see why she is ranked among the top 50 players and top 10 point guards in the state of Illinois. Herron is a guard that consistently brings value and helps elevate the level of play for her team, and she’s already drawing interest at the next level with offers from Bradley and Howard, with more likely on the way.

Herron is a guard who plays with pace but matches it well with aggression. From a scoring standpoint, there aren’t many spots on the court that she can’t get hot from. When it comes to playmaking, her head is constantly up and scanning the floor for open looks. A guard that can truly hit another level over the next couple of years.

Richwoods has added a hell of a player in Kayla, and she is going to be a problem for every guard in her conference. This kid is full of aggression, skill, and knows how to make those around her better. It wouldn’t be a far fetched idea of her making an all-state team this year… she’s that talented. Richwoods will be a team to watch as the season begins.

Herron won’t be on this list when the next update is dropped, and shell land in the top group of guards. She spent two years in Indy, and now that she’s in Illinois, we will be able to see the talent consistently with our own eyes. From the first glance at the film, you can tell this kid knows how to play the PG position, and not just on one side of the ball. She’s a menace, and a kid that a college program would love to have on its squad. Excited to watch her run with Richwoods this year.

Kayla is a fast, athletic guard. She has length, wiry strength, and she plays with a motor. She has solid ball skill and can create off the dribble, and she has an aggressive, attacking mentality. As she learns to change speeds and not always attack at 100 mph, I think it will help her see more openings and be a better multilevel scorer. Defensively, she does a nice job of using her length to get her hands in passing lanes, causing deflections/steals, plus she can use her developing strength to body ball-handlers and contain them.
