In 2023, when I returned to scouting it became a tradition of mine to put together an All-Deck Team in memorial to the late John Madden.

I have made multiple all-star teams for Prep Redzone, Prep Dig, and Prep Girls Hoops.

I often make these teams and break them down by school classifications or graduation year. This year, I did not make it to as many basketball games in what was one of the worst winters I can remember in Kansas, and I have lived here my entire life.

Therefore, I made just one team to represent the best in Kansas prep basketball this season. I only had two rules putting this team together. First, I had to see the athlete play in person, and I limited myself to 12 roster spots.

If I were to return to coaching this is the team I would want to make a run at a state title or for a club championship.

It's my pleasure to bring to you the All-Deck Kansas 2025 Team. There were plenty of difficult choices.

[player_tooltip player_id='671505' first='Maddie' last='Vickery'], 6'1”, PF, Washburn Rural, '27

It was a slam dunk and easy choice to select Vickery for this club. She is hands down one of the best top scorers in the state. Her work ethic is unquestionable, and even though she is still young, she can already carry the burden of being a team leader. She is ranked No. 2 in the Kansas Class of 2027 and has verbally committed to Kansas State University. She led the Junior Blues to an appearance in the Class 6A State Tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='621258' first='Suttyn' last='Harris'], 5'11”, CG, Inman, ‘26

To think I would select an athlete who I know is already planning on heading to college to play volleyball is not something I thought I would ever do. However, Harris earned her way on this team with one of the most dominant performances I saw this postseason. The best word to describe her is; competitor. She plays with a fiery attitude on both courts and scores from all over the court. She would be the emotional leader of this club, while Vickery would be the behind-the-scenes leader. I honestly think the only two athletes who could stop Harris and Vickery from scoring are also on this team. Harris helped lead Inman to a third-place finish in the Class 2A State Tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='719101' first='Macayla' last='Askew'], 6'0”, SF, Derby, ‘26

Askew will be the top shutdown defender on this club. She, Harris, and Vickery would be starting the front line. She can score and rebound. She can guard the other team's top scorer, and play some mean defense in a two-one-two zone, or a two-three zone. Askew is the No. 1 ranked athlete in the Kansas Class of 2026. She and her real-life teammate helped guide the Panthers to a runner-up finish in the Class 6A State Tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='936077' first='Aysia' last='Fox'], 5'8”, PG, Derby, ‘27

Askew's Derby teammate is another one of the best ball defenders I have seen this season. She won't have to score at all in this lineup, although she is quite capable. I would want her to distribute the ball, be a leader on the defensive end of the court, and crash the boards. Fox is ranked No. 30 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.

[player_tooltip player_id='719106' first='Cammi' last='Unruh'], 5'8”, PG, Moundridge, ‘26

Unruh rounds out my starting five, although every athlete on this team could start for any coach in the state. I followed her stats all season but did not see her play in person until at the Class 2A State Tournament. Her speed is what impresses me the most, and her ability to drive to her left. She is ranked No. 34 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026. She like all the younger athletes on this squad have huge futures. Unruh helped Moundridge win the Class 2A State Championship. She finished with 53 points in the three games in the tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='398379' first='Amelia' last='Ramsey'], 6'0”, PF/C, Hayden, '25

My bench is going to be loaded with physical front-court specimens. Leading that group is one of only three seniors to make this squad. “Millie” Ramsey can record a double-double every time she sets foot on a court. She will provide the meanness up front and provide veteran leadership. She is ranked No. 24 in the Kansas Class of 2025 and has committed to Coffeyville Community College. Ramey played key offensive and defensive roles for the Wildcats who finished third in the Class 4A State Tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='898363' first='Hailey' last='Caryl'], 5'10”, PF, Topeka High, ‘28

The Topeka High Freshman, known as “Diesel” is one of the up-and-coming young posts in the state. She is physical as all get out and her toughness earned her a spot on this team. She is an unselfish player, whose skills would improve just by being able to practice with this group. She is also an elite passer inside and her Ramsey would constantly be feeding each other down low. She is ranked No. 9 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. She was an important scoring threat for a rejuvenated Trojans squad. She showed a ton of leadership as a freshman which says a ton about her future.

[player_tooltip player_id='898858' first='Hailey' last='Schmidtlein'], 5'11”, PF, Hayden, ‘28

After deciding to add Harris to this team, I bumped Schmidtlein out of the starting five and she would be my sixth man in this lineup. She is another multiple sport athlete like Harris, who may play college volleyball instead of basketball. Or she might just sign up to play both sports. She is a top-level scorer and like Vickery, she has the versatility to play multiple positions. She is ranked No. 11 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028 and is ranked No. 1 overall in her class on Prep Dig Kansas.

[player_tooltip player_id='899198' first='Kaelyn' last='Boss'], 5'8”, SG, Osage City, ‘28

This team is loaded with match-up problems for other teams. Boss shoots like a guard, but has the frame of a forward. She is arguably the best pure set-shooter on this team, but she can also create her own shot. She is not afraid to hit the boards and as a freshman can learn a ton from the other athletes on this team. I like her mid-range jumper which will come in handy on a team loaded with 3-point shooters. She helped lead Osage City to the Class 3A State Tournament. Boss is ranked No. 35 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028.

[player_tooltip player_id='350246' first='Molly' last='Martin'], 5'7”, PG, Hays, ‘25

Martin played a key role in Hay's undefeated regular season. She can make 3-point baskets, and run a solid offense both in transition and in the half-court. Martin's squad lost in the first round of the Class 5A Tournament and I know she would be hungry to chase a title again before she goes off to college in the fall. She is currently ranked No. 19 overall in the Kansas Class of 2025. She is committed to Ottawa University. The Braves are getting a solid Western Kansas export to play in the KCAC.

[player_tooltip player_id='773206' first='Isla' last='Herman'], 5'9”, CG, Spring Hill, ‘26

The final two spots on this roster were the hardest to fill. I honestly considered five athletes and went back and forth on which two to have round out my roster. Spring Hill's Herman made the cut for her athletic skills and passion for the game. She can shoot to score on every offensive possession but is unselfish and includes her teammates in the offense. Every all-star squad needs a player with team-building skills. Herman helped lead the Broncos to the Class 5A State Tournament. She is ranked No. 110 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026. She scored 54 points in three state games in Emporia.

[player_tooltip player_id='349460' first='Skylar' last='Seals'], 5'6”, SG, Maize South, ‘25

Seals is my secret weapon. If the game is tied or we trail late in the game she will be my go-to shooter from deep. With so much talent on this team, it will be easy for an opposing squad to lose track of the shortest player on the team. Although, in reality, there is no way to miss her. She can drop 3-pointers at an alarming pace. She could play college basketball or golf, but it sounds like she is headed off to college to just be a student. She has the makings of a future coach if she decides to pursue that career. She played a leadership role on back-to-back Class 5A State qualifying teams. Seals is currently ranked No. 50 overall by Prep Girls Hoops Kansas in the Class of 2025.

Before listing all of the Honorable Mention players I wanted to give some special love to the other three athletes strongly considered for the last two roster spots. To throw some bracketology on you, here were the first three athletes out: Spring Hill's [player_tooltip player_id='616731' first='Sydney' last='Buscher'], Maize South's [player_tooltip player_id='649153' first='Ali' last='Singhateh'], and Hays freshman [player_tooltip player_id='817014' first='Jenna' last='Schmeidler'].

Honorable Mention: [player_tooltip player_id='1206524' first='Lexi' last='Boss'], Osage City; [player_tooltip player_id='779205' first='Laila' last='Boylan'], St. Thomas Aquinas; [player_tooltip player_id='649148' first='Kaylee' last='Brunton'], Maize South; [player_tooltip player_id='616731' first='Sydney' last='Buscher'], Spring Hill; [player_tooltip player_id='779210' first='Sofia' last='Calovich'], St. Thomas Aquinas; [player_tooltip player_id='836267' first='Hattie' last='Hecox'], Moundridge; [player_tooltip player_id='649149' first='Alex' last='Crouse'], St. Thomas Aquinas; [player_tooltip player_id='773201' first='Morgan' last='Froese'], Inman; [player_tooltip player_id='1216022' first='Taylor' last='Froese'], Inman; [player_tooltip player_id='1216015' first='Nora' last='Goodenow'], St Thomas Aquinas; [player_tooltip player_id='894521' first='Sarai' last='Graham'], Derby, [player_tooltip player_id='616750' first='Norma' last='Greco'], Hayden; [player_tooltip player_id='544016' first='Charley' last='Hill'], Maize South; [player_tooltip player_id='1182694' first='Gracie' last='Hayes'], Washburn Rural; [player_tooltip player_id='881007' first='Macy' last='Kaminkow'], Moundridge; [player_tooltip player_id='822724' first='Brooke' last='Koenigsman'], TMP-Marian; [player_tooltip player_id='931949' first='Keimara' last='Marshall'], Topeka High; [player_tooltip player_id='398380' first='Brylee' last='Meier'], Hayden; [player_tooltip player_id='845983' first='Ahsieyrhuajh' last='Rayton'], Topeka High; [player_tooltip player_id='817014' first='Jenna' last='Schmeidler'], Hays; [player_tooltip player_id='1216027' first='Ryleigh' last='Seems'], Phillipsburg; [player_tooltip player_id='1237876' first='Trish' last='Short'], Topeka High; [player_tooltip player_id='649153' first='Ali' last='Singhateh'], Maize South; [player_tooltip player_id='773208' first='Emory' last='Speece'], Osage City; [player_tooltip player_id='1216018' first='Aspyn' last='Stos'], Moundridge; [player_tooltip player_id='899340' first='Ellie' last='Thimmesch'], Inman; [player_tooltip player_id='719105' first='Jaela' last='Thompson'], Maize South; [player_tooltip player_id='916493' first='Chloe' last='Vanderveen'], Phillipsburg; [player_tooltip player_id='1206523' first='Addison' last='Watson'], Osage City.
