Continue ReadingValor Christain was able to capture another championship this past season which wouldn’t have been possible without Quinn VanSickle Quinn VanSickle 5’8″ | CG Valor Christian | 2025 State CO and what she brings to the team. The junior guard led the team in points at 18.9 a game as well as assists (4.1) and steals (3.4). VanSickle is a confident shooter that can get off shot off in a variety of ways, forcing teams to chase her around. An overlooked part of Quinn game this season was her ability to make the right reads when teams doubled or blitzed her.
With the late transfer to Riverdale last season Brooklynn got thrown into the mix really fast and wasn’t able to play her game with comfort. After getting to know the team and having an understanding of her role she was able to furnish this season. She shot the ball well from deep when the team needed it most. Setting her up to be able attack the rim off the dribble.
After a slow start to the season A’Neya Chamber was able to get out of slump and become a reliable option on both sides of the ball for Creek Cherry, helping them get back to the Great 8. Chambers has great on ball defensive instincts that make it tough for opposing players to get in a rhythm on offensively. This season she saw a lot of teams take a step back to eliminate the drive, forcing her to shoot more 3’s. A challenge she took personally, raising her 3-point percentage from 23% last season to 39% this season.
This Sand Creek guard was one that caught me by surprise this year with what she was able to do with an increase in minutes. Going from smaller role to larger role Izzy was an effective scorer at and around the rim. Getting to line was the name of her game shooting a high percentage and making the defense pay for being late to help.
Delainey’s style of play makes it really tough to decide who is going to defend her. She has some decent guard skills but also has a very solid post-game. Whether it’s facing up and blowing past or just making simple moves with her back to the basket. Regardless she is more than comfortable doing either one.
Guards like Talia Strode Talia Strode 5’7″ | CG Cherokee Trail | 2025 State CO make coaching very fun and easy, she is the perfect example of what a combo guard does. She can handle the ball in transition, initiate the offense and create for herself and others. Strode can also act as a spot up depending on the line up. Once you add all that with the pressure she provides on the defensive end of the floor and the pride she takes in not getting scored on, it makes her a player to keep an eye out for over the next year.
Highlights
The X-Factor in the success Air Academy was able to have this season was none other than Lydia Flower and her selfless play. Lydia is a player that can guard multiple positions at any time, she is active in passing lanes and uses her voice to communicate to her teammates. On the offense end of the floor, she brings 3-level scoring along with great play making ability.
Highlights
Rylie Beers Rylie Beers 5’10” | CG Valor Christian | 2025 State CO isn’t going to wow you with her level of play but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be mentioned with the best of them. Beers does things on the floor that nobody talks about like helping the helper, calling out screens, getting 50/50 balls and always making the right passes to teammates. Things that impact winning the most. She can also a very capable defend with quick hands.
Thunderridge had a few players that were able to break out of their shell and put their full game on display. One of those being Candace Baker Candace Baker 5’11” | CG ThunderRidge | 2025 State CO she proved to be more than a shooter, all while being leader on the court for the underclassmen. Baker has a height advantage over most guards in the state allowing her to pass over the top of pressure, setting her team up for easy looks. She is also one of the stronger players in the state which makes getting the rim a lot easier.
This season for Legend was magical, everybody had their stock rise in one way or another, and it was a real eye opener for the girls who already knew they could play at a high level. Maley Wihelm being one of those girls, her ability to be a knockdown shooter changed the way teams defended them. She is one of those guards that naturally knows how to make the right plays without being told to do so.
