<p><strong>IOWA CITY, Iowa - </strong>My Friday night was filled with streaming prep basketball in the state, avoiding cold temperatures I prefer not to feel. It allowed me to catch pieces of multiple games, however, and keep up with action I didn't see. </p>

<p>-I took in most of the game with Class 5A No. 10 Iowa City Liberty making the short trip down Dubuque Street to West High. The visitors started strong and never let up in a 72-60 victory it led comfortably most of the night. It represented the first win for the Lightning in nine games against its rival to the south. </p>

<p>Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='63007' first='Jasmine' last='Barney'] netted a game-high 25 points for Liberty with sophomore sharp-shooter Madeline Casey chipping in 11 for the winners. Liberty avenged a 42-40 home loss to the Trojans earlier this season and won its third game in a row, all against ranked teams (Wahlert, Xavier). </p>

<p>Barney added six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots, while classmate [player_tooltip player_id='63046' first='Ava' last='Meyer'] had six points and seven rebounds on Friday. The Lightning improved to 9-2 in the league and are a half game behind Cedar Falls in the Valley Division with games remaining against Jefferson and Prairie. </p>

<p>-A good one was contested in Alleman Friday night when home-standing and Class 4A No. 2-ranked North Polk (17-2) edged fourth-rated Ballard, 60-52. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='63011' first='Makayla' last='Boatman'] paced the winners with 18 points, while sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='311383' first='Abby' last='Tuttle'] recorded 16 points and seven assists. Senior Izzy McCool chipped in with 14 points and seven boards for the Comets, while teammate Becca Aagard, a sophomore, yanked down 10 rebounds. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='314114' first='Alliyah' last='Thompson'] paced Ballard with 15 points and seven caroms. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='160823' first='Lily' last='Hillebrand'] registered 12 points and Lily Beall, a senior, handed out five assists and picked up four rebounds for the Bombers. </p>

<p>-Class 5A top-ranked Pleasant Valley moved to 18-0 Friday but not without a challenge from Davenport Assumption (11-7). Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='311385' first='Reagan' last='Pagniano'] paced the winners with 19 points, knocking down 4 of 7 shots from behind the three-point arc. Junior Jessie Clemons added 11 points, going 9 of 9 from the foul line for the Spartans, while teammate [player_tooltip player_id='545645' first='Halle' last='Vice'], a senior headed to Marquette, chipped in with 10 points and a team-best seven boards. Assumption senior [player_tooltip player_id='160549' first='Ava' last='Schubert'] netted a game-high 24 points and team-best seven rebounds, while freshman Addy Voss contributed nine points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist for the Knights. </p>

<p>-Cedar Rapids Xavier (4A No. 6) prevailed, 62-46, against Linn-Mar (5A No. 11) Friday in another matchup of ranked squads. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='311363' first='Libby' last='Fandel'] led the Saints with 24 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the field. She added six assists, six rebounds and five steals. Senior Kyla Mason netted 18 points for the winners, while teammate [player_tooltip player_id='311380' first='Sydney' last='Huber'], a sophomore, pulled down a game-best eight rebounds and handed our four assists. For Linn-Mar, seniors [player_tooltip player_id='63014' first='Taylor' last='Brunson'] and Zoe Kennedy scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='424439' first='Ellie' last='Daubenmier'] added 11 points for the Lions. </p>

<p>-Class 2A No. 2 Central Lyon handed third-ranked Sibley-Ocheyedan its first loss of the season, pulling out 62-58 triumph on the road Friday. That followed a 53-46 victory by the Lions (17-0) against 3A No. 2 Sioux Center on Tuesday. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='160568' first='Addison' last='Klosterbuer'] has paced Central with 21.1 points per game, while teammate Desta Hoogendoorn, a junior, has chipped in with 15.7 and 9.0 boards an outing. The Generals (18-1) have been getting 19.3 and 13.7 points, respectively, from seniors [player_tooltip player_id='127610' first='Madison' last='Brouwer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='160573' first='Marissa' last='Ackerman']. </p>

<p>-Unranked West Lyon (14-5) picked up one of the more impressive victories on Friday. The Wildcats traveled to Sioux Center (14-4) and left town with a 61-31 victory. They've been led by a pair of seniors in Emily TerWee and Gianna Klarenbeek, who have been averaging 16.9 and 15.4 points, respectively. Senior Willow Bleeker had led the Warriors with 12.9 points and 4.4 rebounds. </p>

<p>-Solon, the No. 2 team in Class 3A, completed a regular-season sweep of rival and No. 12 Mount Vernon with a 50-49 victory Friday night at home.
