Year after year, I have always done an extensive season preview collection of articles that typically include a look at each of the 64 Sectionals in Indiana, as well as a look at the top players and top teams in each class. Last year, I got away from doing articles on the top teams, so I wanted to bring that back once again. Below is a look at how I view Class 3A before too many games have gotten underway. I have included a Top 10, along with 10 more schools to keep in mind throughout the duration of the season. It's not easy, as often there is someone who makes an unexpected run in the tournament in February, but nearly every year the State Finalists in each class have appeared somewhere on these lists.

1. Greensburg High School (21-5 in 2023-2024)
Greensburg has won 20 or more games six times in the last nine years, and they should easily reach that mark again in 2024-2025. During that stretch, they've won five Sectionals, a Regional, and a Semi-State. This year they'd like to cap it all off with a trip to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. They have a talented and deep team, with multiple players drawing Division I interest/offers. 2024 Indiana Junior All-Star [player_tooltip player_id='295778' first='Leah' last='West'] (16.4p, 6.5r), a 6-1 forward and Belmont University commit, is a matchup problem because of her versatility. She can shoot the 3-pointer when set and in rhythm, she can go off the bounce North/South, plus she is a physical rebounder/defender inside. 5-7 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='295779' first='Mylie' last='Wilkison'] (14.8p, 4.4r, 2.4s) is an absolute blur on the court. She has speed, quickness, and some bounce, plus she can create offense for herself and teammates, and she is an effective on-ball defender. 5-10 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='479613' first='Alyson' last='Powers'] (11.8p, 4.0r, 3.6a) is an extremely long, wiry, fast athlete who plays with a competitive fire. She is always making hustle plays, but she has also continued fine-tuning her perimeter skill each year. 5-10 Sophomore wing [player_tooltip player_id='751051' first='Claire' last='Larrison'] (9.2p, 6.8r, 2.9a, 2.2s) compliments those two well around the perimeter because of her height, length, and versatility. She can score the ball from all three levels, she's an active rebounder, and she can create for her teammates as well. 5-7 Junior [player_tooltip player_id='486506' first='Mary' last='Harmon'] (5.3p, 4.2r, 2.9a) and 5-5 Senior [player_tooltip player_id='571840' first='Emma' last='McQueen'] (1.3p) are skillful, fundamentally sound guards who can play on the ball, they can knock down an open shot, and they are active defensively. They could also be stars on many other teams. While those are core contributors, also keep an eye on 5-9 Freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='999393' first='Kahlen' last='Adams'] and 6-2 Freshman post Maisyn Meehan. both are talented enough to see playing time right out of the gate, but on this loaded roster, they'll figure it out as they go.

2. Silver Creek High School (18-5 in 2023-2024)
The Dragons are back in Class 3A following two seasons in Class 4A due to the IHSAA's postseason success guidelines. Silver Creek has a nice mixture of talent but make no mistake...they have a standout. 6-3 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='486543' first='Brooklynn' last='Renn'] (15.3p, 10.1r, 1.0s, 4.3b) can be a handful for opponents. She is tall, long, fluidly athletic, and bouncy. Over the years, she has transitioned from being comfortable around the block, to now almost exclusively facing the basket, whether that be from the mid-post or the perimeter. Her talent and potential have drawn her offers from a number of mid to high-major Division I programs. The backcourt combination of 5-7 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='422604' first='Emma' last='Schoen'] (11.0p, 4.4r, 3.2a), 5-7 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='366806' first='Lydia' last='Wright'] (8.0p, 3.5r), and 5-3 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='506022' first='Katy' last='Rooney'] surround Renn once again and compliment her well because of their abilities to shoot/score. Schoen is a long, wiry shooter with deep range. She isn't afraid to pull the trigger in big moments either. Wright is another accurate wing shooter, but she has also done a nice job of getting downhill, and she does a lot of the "little things". Rooney is a feisty little guard who flat out competes. She can run offense, create off the dribble, or knock down shots outside. 6-0 Junior post [player_tooltip player_id='1266853' first='Joslyn' last='Chesser'] has steadily improved each year, and because of her size, strength, and physicality, she can defend inside and protect the paint for the Dragons. 5-5 Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='751057' first='Emily' last='Robison'] transferred in from New Albany over the Summer and could be an x-factor for them. She is quick, intelligent, poised, and good with the ball. She is more of a traditional point guard looking to facilitate, plus she'll defend with effort. 5-7 Senior guard Amira Estephan and 5-8 Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='334074' first='Hannah' last='Senn'] return valuable experience, and they can play a variety of roles to help with depth. Look for Silver Creek to once again be immediate contenders in Class 3A, now that they are "back".

3. Washington High School (22-5 in 2023-2024)
Washington might have as much talent, depth, and balance as anyone in Class 3A right now, and they will figure out a way to use it and make a deep postseason run. Along the frontline is where you can find 6-2 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='486519' first='Katie' last='Reed'] (13.3p, 6.4r) and 6-0 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='324075' first='Olivia' last='Gilley'] (6.4p, 4.9r). Reed has nice length, she continues to get stronger, and she's a solid all-around athlete who moves well in most directions. She has added consistency to her jump-shot and continues to be more and more proficient from the 3-point line. Gilley is all motor, toughness, and "blue collar". She is a solid athlete herself, but she'll do a lot of the "little things" in and around the paint. On a lesser team, she could possibly be a double-double kid most nights. 5-11 Sophomore wing [player_tooltip player_id='751098' first='London' last='Gilley'] (2.1p, 2.1r in 14 games) is more of a point forward type who can create off the dribble or shoot it from the perimeter. At the same time, she is big/strong enough to give them minutes inside the arc as well if needed. She is a versatile talent ready to make her mark this season. As for guards, 5-8 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='767081' first='Aubrey' last='Frank'] (7.6p, 3.0r, 3.0a) kind of runs the show. She has length, nice athleticism, but she gets them into their offenses and likes to facilitate and defend. 5-7 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1122709' first='Kenna' last='Garland'] (9.0p) and 5-7 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='486476' first='Shaylyn' last='Hawk'] (8.1p, 3.6r) are a pair of nice, athletic guards who aren't as well-known on the statewide level because they aren't grassroot participants. Garland is more of a driver, while Hawk can knock down shots outside or get to the rim a little. 5-8 Junior [player_tooltip player_id='999582' first='Kyra' last='Schuckman'] (1.2p in 11 games) and 5-10 Junior [player_tooltip player_id='486523' first='Ella' last='Williams'] (0.8p in 14 games) are two more talented guards who are just waiting their turn to play bigger roles at the Varsity level. Williams was good in stretches during the Spring & Summer. The Hatchets have plenty of tools in their shed, as long as they are on the same page, they could find a lot of success in 2024-2025.

4. Columbia City High School (22-3 in 2023-2024)
Columbia City had an outstanding 2023-2024 season, but even though they won the prestigious Hall of Fame Tournament and were nearly untouchable during the regular season, they fell to Homestead in the Sectional for the fifth consecutive year. Now, back in Class 3A, they can avoid the Spartans and compete to get to the North Semi-State. Last year's Eagles had a deep core that included a number of Spring graduates, so this season's group will have somewhat of a new look to them. The good news is their best player returns in 5-9 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='295754' first='Addison' last='Baxter'] (18.4p, 6.6r, 5.0a, 5.2s). Now, more than ever, the Butler University commit will be leaned on to produce at a high level each night. The 2024 Indiana Junior All-Star is capable of the task, as she does everything for the Eagles, from handle the ball, to create offense, knock down shots outside, and defend/rebound. Classmate Laney Ziliak, a 5-7 guard, will be asked to take on a much bigger role in the offense, however she has a couple years of experience, and she is skilled in her own right. Also returning to the backcourt is 5-8 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='486514' first='Anisa' last='Tonkel']. Without as much depth this year, I am anxious to see what kind of opportunity she gets, because she is a tireless worker, a nice athlete, and she can contribute at both ends of the floor in a number of ways. I think she could step up into that #2 role this season. 5-6 Senior guard Alivia Kidd is another veteran who has played in big games, and she should be available to add depth around the perimeter. Intriguing in the frontcourt is 5-11 Sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='992133' first='Claudia' last='Strack']. She is a nice, long, athletic forward with a great motor. She'll pursue rebounds, defend multiple positions, plus she can score it in the mid-post. She had a nice July. 5-8 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1256475' first='Torah' last='Holler'] is really the only other staple who brings any experience at the Varsity level, so the Eagles will need some fresh faces to step up and help them with their frontcourt depth. As long as Columbia City can find a second scoring threat most nights, they should be fine during the regular season and compete for a Sectional title.

5. Danville Community High School (24-4 in 2023-2024)
Danville is always a problem for teams in Central Indiana, and this season they have a nice mix of veteran experience and youthful energy. 5-6 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='295784' first='Emma' last='Ancelet'] (15.2p, 6.0r, 6.5a, 3.2s) and 5-9 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='626931' first='Addison' last='Davis'] (13.0p, 7.0r, 2.5s) lead the list of returnees. Ancelet is a tremendous lead guard who plays with a competitive fire. She can handle and distribute, she can create offense, and she is a feisty defender who can turn opponents over. She has committed to Taylor University. Davis is one of the toughest kids around. She is a strong athlete, she can play in the mid-post or around the perimeter, and she plays with an outstanding motor. Those two would be enough for most teams, but the Warriors also return 5-7 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='486529' first='Maddy' last='Wethington'] (9.7p), 5-10 Junior forward Ava Walls (4.3p, 3.7r), and 5-8 Junior wing Allie Gunter (1.1p in 15 games). The older Wethington had a nice Sophomore season, and she could step into the role of a third double-digit scoring threat. She can also back up Ancelet in terms of point guard duties, if necessary. Four additional ladies should find some opportunity on this talented team. 5-10 Sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='1006201' first='Casey' last='Hummel'], 5-4 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='990169' first='Amelia' last='Wethington'], 5-6 guard Abbie Creviston, and 5-10 forward [player_tooltip player_id='992354' first='Jillian' last='Conrad'] all have the opportunity to affect Varsity action from the outset of the season. The latter three Warriors are all part of a talented 2028 Freshman class. Once Ancelet, Davis, and the older Wethington are able to incorporate the others on a consistent basis, Danville will be a dangerous team the rest of the year.

6. Evansville Central High School (20-6 in 2023-2024)
Due to the massive IHSAA realignment in the Spring, Evansville Central is another team down from Class 4A. Not only that, but they have a nice returning cast. 6-1 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='492324' first='Madalynn' last='Shirley'] (19.0p, 9.0r, 2.3b) is a surgeon who will dissect opponents with her incredible skillset. She is for all intents and purposes a face-up '4', but she can knock down the 3-pointer consistently, she is tremendous in the mid-post, and whenever she does post up inside, she has moves, counter moves, and counters to her counter moves. She has already given a verbal commitment to the University of Southern Indiana. 5-7 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='874335' first='Mya' last='Skelton'] (9.5p, 4.3r, 2.6a) should join Shirley as a double-figure scorer this year. She put together a nice 2023-2024 season, but she was even better throughout the Spring & Summer. She is strong, North/South fast, and very active. Her ability to create offense from all three levels will certainly help the Bears. Also keep an eye on 5-11 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='874339' first='Olivya' last='Hile'] (4.1p, 2.5r). I feel like she is a breakout candidate this season. She is long, fluidly athletic, and skilled around the perimeter. While she is a developing wing, she can also be used in the mid-post or to battle inside defensively. 5-4 Senior [player_tooltip player_id='556017' first='Avery' last='Kelley'] (4.8p, 2.0r, 2.7a) and 5-5 Senior Aubrie Durham (2.9p) should be available to help Skelton with backcourt responsibilities. Kelley is a more natural point guard who can manage a half-court offense, while Durham is going to be asked to score some from the wing. After those five, it will be several underclassmen battling for opportunity, and as many as four Freshmen could see the floor early this season. The Bears are well-coached and often play for each other, which is often the toughest type of team to beat.

7. Bishop Chatard High School (19-9 in 2023-2024)
Over the past four seasons, the Trojans have won four Sectional titles and three Regional titles. With the better players on their roster being Juniors and Seniors this season, they look to potentially break through and advance to the State Finals. 6-0 Senior post [player_tooltip player_id='692233' first='Anna' last='Caskey'] (11.9p, 11.2r) tends to set the tone most games with her physicality and toughness around the paint. She is a fiery competitor and motivates her teammates to step up their game as well. She is committed to Belmont University to play softball. 5-11 Junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='832685' first='Olivia' last='Berzai'] (12.0p, 6.3r, 2.6a, 2.4s) compliments Caskey well because of her ability to play multiple positions. She can act as a point forward and playmaker, she can settle into the mid-post, plus she uses her length and ability in different ways defensively. Look for 6-1 Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='486530' first='Alyx' last='Kendall'] (6.7p, 4.0r) to have a breakout year in 2024-2025. At her size, she's another nice athlete with versatile skill. She can back up Caskey in the low-post, play with Caskey in the mid-post, or even step outside and handle/shoot like a face-up '4'. Another talented front-liner who can definitely help when she's available is 6-3 Sophomore post [player_tooltip player_id='751060' first='Gianna' last='Morelli'] (9.5p, 7.3r, 2.8b in 13 games). Morelli transferred in from Guerin Catholic over the Summer, but she injured her knee and will miss some time. She has a strong frame, but she works hard, and she has nice skill facing the basket and around the block. 5-8 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='486534' first='Betsy' last='Tragesser'] (5.5p, 3.3r, 3.9a) will likely team with Berzai in the backcourt and handle the ball quite a bit. She can score it, but she almost sacrifices scoring a little at times to help run the team. Also look for 5-10 Sophomore wing [player_tooltip player_id='992543' first='Lilly' last='Braun'] to find some opportunities as well after appearing in 11 games last season. 5-11 Senior post Annie McAllister (1.4p, 2.6r) is another experienced veteran who can help with interior depth.

8. Corydon Central High School (14-10 in 2023-2024)
The Panthers made a trip to the Class 3A State Finals in 2023, and this year's team might have enough talent to make the same type of run in February. The thing that stands out the most is their exceptional guard play. 5-5 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='324096' first='Josie' last='Vaughn'] (14.8p, 3.4r, 3.5a, 3.0s) gives it one last run. She is a real problem for opponents, because she is a quietly tough assassin who can create offense off the bounce for teammates, and she has a great feel for the game, but she's also a talented perimeter shooter who can score it in bunches herself at times. Her poise and presence should keep her teammates calm in sticky situations. 5-5 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='295768' first='Alyssa' last='Murphy'] is a new addition to the roster, but not without an elaborate storyline. Murphy grew up in Southern Indiana, but she opted to attend high school in Louisville during her Freshman and Sophomore years. She made a name for herself as a dynamic playmaker with a nice shiftiness to her game and tremendous ball skill, but she has spent a lot of time over the past year and a half dealing with some injuries. She attended Corydon Central last year but wasn't on the team, and now that she has returned, she gives them an immediate double feature in the backcourt that opponents must deal with. If that isn't enough, 5-3 Junior guard Paisley Teeter (7.3p), along with 5-6 Sophomore guard Kyra Lathan (2.2p, 2.3r), saw plenty of action last season and provide nice depth this year. Then there is 5-8 Junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='496070' first='Reese' last='Withers'] (1.8p, 2.4r in 2022-2023), who missed her Sophomore year with her own injury issues. She has flashed talent, skill, and a strong work ethic during grassroots basketball and Fall showcase season, so look for her to make a big impact this year. 6-0 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='404110' first='Alyssa' last='Groover'] (8.8p, 6.5, 2.1a) takes charge of interior responsibilities, but even she is a versatile, active, and skillful forward who can step outside some. 5-5 Junior forward Meghan Logan (1.5p, 3.9r) and 5-8 Freshman guard Sophia Bulleit could also see quite a bit of action this season for the Panthers. If Vaughn and Murphy can coexist in the backcourt, they'll give opposing coaches nightmares. As long as Groover stays healthy and out of foul trouble, Corydon Central will be the favorite most times they take the court.

9. Bellmont High School (17-8 in 2023-2024)
The Lady Braves of Bellmont have become a basketball powerhouse over the last decade, stringing together eight consecutive seasons of 17 or more wins. 5-8 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='828044' first='Emily' last='Bleke'] (12.8p, 5.5r, 2.2a, 2.2s) is the first player of note this season. She is strong, hard-working, and she is a legitimate shooting threat from the perimeter. She has a quick release, but she can also put it on the floor and attack the basket North/South, often drawing contact/fouls. Joining her in the lineup is fellow Senior [player_tooltip player_id='923163' first='Kamryn' last='Jarvis']. Jarvis is a 5-10 athletic forward who has committed to Earlham College. She is most effective in the mid-post, and she's an active rebounder, but she has worked to stretch her game to the perimeter some as well. 5-5 guards [player_tooltip player_id='751084' first='Kate' last='Kitson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='751092' first='Lanie' last='French'], both Sophomores, are promising youngsters who saw action a season ago and now are "veterans" to some extent. Kitson is fairly poised from the point, she's tough, and she takes care of the basketball. French is a solid athlete who can attack the basket from the perimeter or knock down an open rhythm jumper. 5-7 Freshman guard Kaitlyn Burton looks to find a spot in the rotation early this season. She is a talented youngster who should definitely help the Braves at some point soon. If the Braves can find balance between their upperclassmen with experience and their talented younger players, they could be pretty competitive once February rolls around. I would think 17 wins and a Sectional title sounds very achievable in 2024-2025.

10. Roncalli High School (13-9 in 2023-2024)
Roncalli graduated some nice players in the Spring, but I feel like they could be another top team in Class 3A, following their drop from Class 4A due to the realignment. Why? Well, the Royals have nice guard play and can control most games from the backcourt. 5-9 Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='716615' first='Elliot' last='Leffler'] (13.0p, 5.0r) is their top returnee, and she is one of the better Sophomores in the entire state. She is strong, tough-nosed, hard-working, but also skilled and versatile, plus she shoots a good ball from the perimeter. 5-4 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='296265' first='Sara' last='Rosko'] (8.4p, 2.6r, 2.2a) is back and is a feisty playmaker. She has good speed & quickness, she can get gaps offensively and find open teammates, plus she can cause problems defensively. Younger sister [player_tooltip player_id='421106' first='Catie' last='Rosko'], a 5-1 point guard, returns after missing much of last season. She is another quick little water-bug who can make plays at either end of the floor. 5-6 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='486513' first='Brennah' last='Cerny'] (6.4p, 2.4r) and 5-5 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='376911' first='Kalise' last='Gutierrez'] bring a veteran presence to the backcourt, plus both play with motors and make "blue collar" plays that aid winning. 6-1 Junior post Lydia Stahley (5.4p, 4.2r) is quite intriguing inside, and she has gotten better and more productive each season. She could approach double-double numbers most games. Also, 5-7 Freshman wing [player_tooltip player_id='984355' first='Lola' last='Morelli'] was impressive at a couple of Fall showcases. Because of her strength and athleticism, she could be asked to play an undersized forward role this season. She is a willing rebounder. 6-1 Sophomore post Caroline Schoettle and 5-11 Freshman forward Ava Stone are Varsity newcomers who bring additional size to the frontcourt.
