Oregon Grassroots Recap

<p>Three of the top girls basketball circuits — Nike EYBL, adidas 3SSB, and Select Events Power 24 — showcased players from Oregon at national championship tournaments in mid-July, which marked the end of the AAU season.</p>   <p>Noticeably missing from the prestigious EYBL and 3SSB is a team from Oregon, the home state to the national headquarters of both shoe brands, the city many call the “global epicenter of women's sports”, and ESPN's No. 1-ranked college prospect from the class of 2025 — Jazzy Davidson.</p>   <p>Some of Oregon's top players ran with out-of-state programs to compete in those two top circuits. OSU-commit [player_tooltip player_id='832611' first='Taylor' last='Young'], ranked nationally in the class of 2026 top 100 by ESPN, played for CalStars, a California team that advanced to the elite eight and placed seventh in the 17 EYBL bracket at the Nike Nationals.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Brett_Taylor94/status/1926097064628294073 </div></figure>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/CalStars/status/1946673634631717273 </div></figure>   <p>[player_tooltip player_id='828956' first='Mayen' last='Akpan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='832046' first='Love' last='Forde'] also played for CalStars, the same club team that rostered USC-bound Davidson, Boise State-bound Izzie Harms, and Los Angeles Sparks WNBA player Cameron Brink — all players from Oregon.</p>   <p>CalStars also boasts Brooklynn Haywood, the Union rising senior from Vancouver, Wash., a city well within recruiting proximity of grassroots programs in the greater Portland area. ESPN ranks Haywood at No. 26 in the nation for the class of 2026, and Prep Girls Hoops Washington ranks her at No. 2 in the state. Best was named to the Power 24 17U Division First Team and Lackey was given an Honorable Mention. In Las Vegas, two back-to-back weekend Select Events tournaments in May).</p>   <p>Oregon's [player_tooltip player_id='1125424' first='Kyoko' last='Beasley'] and incoming freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1264933' first='Payton' last='Webster'] played for Jason Kidd Select 15U and went on to win the 15U Division Power 24 national championship. The up-and-coming 15U squad is led by emerging underclassmen [player_tooltip player_id='1264922' first='Nuari' last='Filipe'], Zoe Sanders, [player_tooltip player_id='1246597' first='Flo' last='Borchardt'] (2030), [player_tooltip player_id='1264962' first='Aubrey' last='Pentecost'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1264930' first='Jada' last='Kirk']. In Las Vegas in May).</p>   <p>Another notable Oregon underclassman, whom I would rank top two in her class with Borchardt, is [player_tooltip player_id='1246599' first='Taylor' last='Nash'] (2030). Nash played for Oregon Basketball Club in the spring and for Why Not Premier 14U (Calif.) in the Jr. EYBL at the Nike Nationals.
