The featured image is of [player_tooltip player_id='324072' first='Kenzie' last='Garner'] (2025) of Sheridan High School.

With the 2023-2024 season having concluded a little over a week ago, I wanted to take the time to offer up a handful of awards based on how everyone in Class 2A performed during the 2023-2024 season. As it specifically concerns the All-State teams, my decision was an equal-parts judgement call that factored in a combination of skill, ability, individual statistics, and team success from this specific season. With regards to the Freshman class (2027), I created a specific All-State team and Freshman of the Year award to honor them, so you won't see Freshmen in any additional groupings other than Honorable Mention All-State. At the end of the day, this is simply an attempt to honor girls who I thought stood out this season in Class 2A.

.

TOP CLASS 2A AWARDS

These postseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I thought stood out in Class 2A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debatable, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled the description the best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.

Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='486521' first='Laniah' last='Wills'], 2026, 6-0 F, Lapel H.S.
- The meaning of most valuable player to me leans more towards the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. Well, Lapel is coming off of a State Finals appearance in 2022-2023 and a Semi-State appearance in 2023-2024, and while they have other nice players, Laniah is a huge reason why they are able to have the success that they do. She would likely have been a starter at 99% of the Class 4A schools as a Freshman, and she brings a level of talent and athleticism to Class 2A that is tough to match up with. She has length, bounce, speed & quickness, and she's able to simply outplay opponents with her physical gifts. As she continues to build her skill and add a perimeter game, she's only going to be that much more dangerous of a weapon.

Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='324072' first='Kenzie' last='Garner'], 2025, 6-0 F, Sheridan H.S.
- As opposed to the most valuable player award, the most outstanding player award points at simply the best basketball player in all of Class 2A, regardless of team quality, depth etc. I feel like Kenzie often misses out on some of the publicity because she committed very young, but not only that, she committed to a Division-II school. She is a Division-I talent, and as a Junior added onto her already impressive resume. She has height, length, and fluid athleticism. She has always been a multilevel scorer who can post smaller defenders, bury shot after shot or attack from the mid-post, plus she has nice touch around the 3-point line. This season, she turned into more of a point forward and did a lot of ball-handling, creating, and initiating of the team's offense. Plus, she is willing to sit down and defend multiple positions.

Most Improved Player: [player_tooltip player_id='825889' first='Carley' last='Higgins'], 2024, 5-9 F, Paoli H.S.
- Even though Carley came into the season with multiple Varsity letters, she had never averaged double figures or been a star. Following some key 2023 graduations, it was now her turn to shine, and did she ever. She took her 2022-2023 averages (9.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.9 spg) and really built upon them, averaging 17.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, plus she was more aggressive to the basket and shot better percentages from the field and the charity stripe. She is an athletically built, long, and somewhat bouncy prospect with a motor and a nice inside-out game. She has committed to continue playing at Indiana University-Southeast.

Most Outstanding Freshman: [player_tooltip player_id='750766' first='McKenzie' last='Koch'], 2027, 5-8 G, Eastern Hancock H.S.
- I don't know that this was a terribly difficult choice in Class 2A, as McKenzie played like she belonged on a bigger stage most of the year. I have seen her since she was in 7th Grade, and you always knew something was coming. Fortunately for Eastern Hancock, they have one of the state's better young guards. McKenzie is a scoring point guard who can hit shots, break defenders down and get to the rim, plus she has a nice mid-range pull-up game. She is also unselfish and will make the "right" play, hitting the open teammate when available. She showed a lot of mettle throughout the state tournament, often making a big play at a key moment. She might still grow another inch or two, but continuing to gain strength while maintaining her quickness/explosion will be key, because she is very crafty on the court.

.

ADDITIONAL CLASS 2A AWARDS

Toughest Player: [player_tooltip player_id='177329' first='Keylee' last='Hudson'], 2024, Eastern Greene H.S.
Best Motor: [player_tooltip player_id='326486' first='Bradie' last='Chambers'], 2024, Linton-Stockton H.S.
Best Shooter: [player_tooltip player_id='239351' first='Sophia' last='Morrison'], 2024, Eastbrook H.S.
Best Scorer: [player_tooltip player_id='404111' first='Jacklynn' last='Hosier'], 2025, Alexandria-Monroe H.S.
Best Passer: [player_tooltip player_id='455943' first='Molly' last='Schulte'], 2024, South Spencer H.S.
Best Rebounder: [player_tooltip player_id='486521' first='Laniah' last='Wills'], 2026, Lapel H.S.
Best Shot-Blocker: [player_tooltip player_id='295783' first='Kimber' last='Abshear'], 2025, Monroe Central H.S.
Best Defender: [player_tooltip player_id='570383' first='Kahlen' last='Robinson'], 2025, Bowman Academy
Best Athlete: [player_tooltip player_id='486521' first='Laniah' last='Wills'], 2026, Lapel H.S.
Most Versatile: [player_tooltip player_id='324072' first='Kenzie' last='Garner'], 2025, Sheridan H.S.

.

CLASS 2A ALL-STATE TEAMS

Like the postseason awards (above), this was another attempt to honor girls who stood out in Class 2A during the 2023-2024 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments.
