2025-2026 Class 2A Preseason Awards

After spending the past few weeks previewing each of the 16 Sectionals in Class 2A, I wanted to take a look at who I think could be the better individuals in Indiana throughout the 2025-2026 season. Using examples from college preview magazines, below I've assembled a variety of preseason awards, preseason all-state teams, plus a preseason honorable mention section. I've given last year's performances and statistics some consideration, but the players below are listed based specifically on how I think they will perform this season. (All statistics below are from the 2024-2025 season, unless otherwise noted.)   .   TOP CLASS 2A AWARDS   These preseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I think could stand out in Class 2A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debated, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled each description best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.   Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='486521' first='Laniah' last='Wills'], 2026, 6-1 F, Lapel H.S. - The meaning of most outstanding player to me points to the best all-around basketball player, regardless of team quality, depth, etc. Laniah has been a force inside the arc for the Bulldogs since arriving her Freshman year. She is a talented athlete, an active rebounder, she can defend multiple positions, and she has continued to develop her offensive game to now include shooting the ball to the 3-point line and handling it in transition and initiating the offense. She has committed to Butler University, and her athleticism should serve her well in the Big East. But for this Winter, look for her at times to put her team on her back and carry them against a few of their opponents. She is a walking double-double who can go for 40 points and/or 25 rebounds at any given time against high school competition. She will draw double-teams all Winter.   Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='567133' first='Brynn' last='Owens'], 2026, 5-7 G, Austin H.S. - As opposed to the most outstanding player award, to me at least, the most valuable player award leans more towards the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. This season, I feel like Brynn stands out as a player in Class 2A who her team can't survive without. Sure, the Eagles have other nice players surrounding her, but her more than 25 points per game from last season were key to their success. She is an accurate shooter when set and in rhythm, but more than that, she has also become a good ball-handler who can create offense and set up open teammates. Additionally, she is getting to the basket and earning free throw opportunities, plus she has really worked to become a more effective and instigating on-ball defender. She's definitely at the top of everyone's scouting report.   Most Outstanding Newcomer: [player_tooltip player_id='834952' first='Kyra' last='Lowe'], 2027, 5-8 G, Whitko H.S. - Sometimes this award goes to a Freshman, sometimes it goes to an injury returnee, but in this case, it goes to a transfer student. Kyra spent her first two seasons starting for the South Bend Washington Panthers. They played a tough schedule, and she was surrounded by outstanding talent, so she should be well-prepared for anything she can and will see as a Wildcat this year. Kyra is a really nice athlete, she possesses length, and she has an athletic frame. She can put it on the floor and attack the basket, she can create for teammates, and she's a capable multilevel scorer herself. Additionally, she has some feistiness to her game, and I think she actually enjoys getting after it defensively, especially when she's defending the ball-handler. I'd look for her to potentially be a double-digit scorer this year and help elevate Whitko's defense as well.   . Biggest Mismatch: [player_tooltip player_id='486521' first='Laniah' last='Wills'], 2026, 6-1 F, Lapel H.S.   .   CLASS 2A ALL-STATE TEAMS   Like the awards above, this is another attempt to honor girls who could stand out in Class 2A during the 2025-2026 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it's at least easy to understand why each of the players listed below were selected to be honored. Disclaimer: Freshmen were not considered for the Preseason All-State teams, only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, however I have highlighted a few Freshmen in the Honorable Mention section. Freshmen will be included in the Postseason Awards in March, once they have had the opportunity to put in a full Varsity season.
