2024-2025 Class 2A Preseason Awards

After spending the past week previewing each of the 16 Sectionals in Class 2A, I wanted to take a look at who I think could be the better individuals in Indiana throughout the 2024-2025 season. Using examples from college preview magazines, below I've assembled a variety of preseason awards, preseason all-state teams, plus a preseason honorable mention section. I've given last year's performances and statistics some consideration, but the players below are listed based specifically on how I think they will perform this season. (All statistics below are from the 2023-2024 season, unless otherwise noted.)   .   TOP CLASS 2A AWARDS   These preseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I think could stand out in Class 2A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debated, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled each description best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.   Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='486521' first='Laniah' last='Wills'], 2026, 6-1 F, Lapel H.S. - The meaning of most outstanding player to me points to the best all-around basketball player, regardless of team quality, depth, etc. Laniah has been nearly dominant each game since her Freshman year began, and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon. She started as more of an interior player during her first year or so, finding herself on the block when she needed a basket. But since sometime last season, she has really worked to develop her handle and creativity off the bounce, plus she's working to extend her range to the perimeter. If she can put together the whole package of being an inside-out forward who can score at all three levels, she could be a candidate for this award at the Class 4A level, not just in Class 2A. She is a unique athletic talent, and I'd expect her to again post double-double averages in 2024-2025.   Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='404111' first='Jacklynn' last='Hosier'], 2025, 5-8 G, Alexandria-Monroe H.S. - As opposed to the most outstanding player award, to me at least, the most valuable player award leans more towards the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. Jacklynn has been the best player for the Tigers her entire career, and now she is leaned on as much as ever. She has nice length, speed, and great basketball instincts. She plays extremely hard, defends with energy & awareness, and I haven't even pointed out her skill yet. She has developed her handle throughout the years and can now play on or off the ball. She has always been great getting downhill and finishing at the basket, and her perimeter shot has gotten more consistent. She has already started the 2024-2025 season putting up big scoring numbers, so look for her to keep that strong pace throughout the Winter.   Most Outstanding Newcomer: [player_tooltip player_id='295783' first='Kimber' last='Abshear'], 2025, 6-3 F, Wapahani H.S. - Class 2A had a handful of eligible candidates for this award, but I feel like Kimber brings a uniqueness to the game the others don't. Kimber spent her first three high school seasons at Monroe Central, but she has moved seven miles West to rival Wapahani for her Senior year. She is extremely long, wiry-strong, and fluidly athletic. She can be a problem for opposing teams because she can use her height and length around the basket, but she also has touch facing the rim to the 3-point line. She is a very unique type of matchup because of her inside-out versatility, and if she was more consistently around the hoop, she could be a 12 to 15 rebounds per game player as well. She does bring a lot of value defensively as a shot-blocker/shot-changer, but she can also step out and defend. Kimber gave an early commitment to Division I Oakland University.   . CLASS 2A ALL-STATE TEAMS   Like the awards above, this was another attempt to honor girls who could stand out in Class 2A during the 2024-2025 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it's at least easy to understand why each of the players listed below were selected to be honored. Disclaimer: Freshmen were not considered for the All-State teams, only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, however I have highlighted a few Freshmen in the Honorable Mention section. Freshmen will be included in the Postseason Awards in March, once they have had the opportunity to put in a full Varsity season.
