2025-2026 Class 3A Preseason Awards

After spending the past couple of weeks previewing each of the 16 Sectionals in Class 3A, I wanted to take a look at who I think could be the better individuals in Indiana throughout the 2025-2026 season. Using examples from college preview magazines, below I've assembled a variety of preseason awards, preseason all-state teams, plus a preseason honorable mention section. I've given last year's performances and statistics some consideration, but the players below are listed based specifically on how I think they will perform this season. (All statistics below are from the 2024-2025 season, unless otherwise noted.)   .   TOP CLASS 3A AWARDS   These preseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I think could stand out in Class 3A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debated, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled each description best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.   Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='486543' first='Brooklynn' last='Renn'], 2026, 6-3 F, Silver Creek H.S. - The meaning of most outstanding player to me points to the best all-around basketball player, regardless of team quality, depth, etc. Brooklynn has been a Varsity regular since her Freshman season. She has tremendous length, fluid athleticism, and she runs & jumps well. She recently made a commitment to the University of Kansas for basketball, but she was also drawing Division I interest in volleyball as a front row attacker/middle blocker. On the court, her game has grown throughout her high school career. Last season, she shot 72% from the charity stripe and was 11-30 (37%) from 3-point range, allowing her to be a threat in pick-and-pop as well as pick-and-roll situations. I feel like her comfort around the perimeter has improved the most, and that's where she could continue to expand her game and be a big problem at the next level.   Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='492324' first='Madalynn' last='Shirley'], 2026, 6-1 F, Evansville Central H.S. - As opposed to the most outstanding player award, to me at least, the most valuable player award leans more toward the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. I was actually torn between a couple of different players in this spot. However, this season, I feel like Madalynn best fits this category, as evidenced by Central's immediate losing streak following an injury that has kept her out the last four games. When she returns, look for the Bears to "right the ship" and once again be a state competitor at the Class 3A level. She is highly skilled, versatile, and very cerebral as well. The University of Southern Indiana commit is solid with her back to the basket, great in the mid-post, but also a capable perimeter shooter/passer. She is one of the most fundamental face-up '4s' I've seen in my years covering girls' hoops.   Most Outstanding Newcomer: [player_tooltip player_id='1263959' first='Arianna' last='Rowell'], 2029, 5-7 G, South Bend St. Joseph H.S. - Sometimes this award goes to a transfer student, sometimes it goes to an injury returnee, but in this case, it goes to a Freshman. Arianna arrived to St. Joseph with some fanfare, so an immediate impact was expected to be felt by the Lady Indians. However, following a 4-game losing streak to end last season, I'm not sure they envisioned starting 4-1 this year. In addition, Arianna has been electric. In her first five games, she is averaging 31.6 points per game, with a high of 34 and a low of 29, so she has been extremely consistent. She's also shooting 49% from the field, 36% from 3-point range, and 85% from the free throw line. She has nice length, a good handle, and a creative mindset. She has the ability that if she slid into more of a traditional point guard role, she could probably average 12 assists per game and still find time to manage 20 points as well.   . CLASS 3A ALL-STATE TEAMS   Like the awards above, this is another attempt to honor girls who could stand out in Class 3A during the 2025-2026 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it's at least easy to understand why each of the players listed below were selected to be honored. Disclaimer: Freshmen were not considered for the Preseason All-State teams, only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, however I have highlighted a few Freshmen in the Honorable Mention section. Freshmen will be included in the Postseason Awards in March, once they have had the opportunity to put in a full Varsity season.
