2024-2025 Class 4A Preseason Awards

After spending the past couple of weeks previewing each of the 16 Sectionals in Class 4A, I wanted to take a look at who I think could be the better individuals in Indiana throughout the 2024-2025 season. Using examples from college preview magazines, below I've assembled a variety of preseason awards, preseason all-state teams, plus a preseason honorable mention section. I've given last year's performances and statistics some consideration, but the players below are listed based specifically on how I think they will perform this season. (All statistics below are from the 2023-2024 season, unless otherwise noted.)   .   TOP CLASS 4A AWARDS   These preseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I think could stand out in Class 4A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debated, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled each description best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.   Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='295763' first='Jaylah' last='Lampley'], 2025, 6-2 W, Lawrence Central H.S. - The meaning of most outstanding player to me points to the best all-around basketball player, regardless of team quality, depth, etc. I feel like last season, Jaylah took her game to the next level. She was arguably the best player on the best team in 2023-2024, and it showed nearly every time they took the floor. She is a nice athlete with tremendous length, but it's her ability to play at all three levels that makes her a matchup nightmare. She plays with a great motor and will battle inside, she has skill and touch in the mid-post, plus she has become a dangerous offensive threat around the perimeter, whether she's handling the ball and creating offense, attacking the rim North/South, or knocking down open jump-shots with consistency. Jaylah gave a commitment to Mississippi State University this Fall.   Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='295764' first='Maya' last='Makalusky'], 2025, 6-3 W, Hamilton Southeastern H.S. - As opposed to the most outstanding player award, to me at least, the most valuable player award leans more towards the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. Maya has always been one of the best basketball players in her class, she is a highly skilled perimeter shooter, she is a fluid and smooth athlete, and she has continually improved her well-roundedness with regards to how she scores the basketball. Without Maya, Hamilton Southeastern would still be a good team, but figuring in her 26.1 points per game from 2023-2024, plus the attention she draws from defenses because of her ability to shoot/score at a high level, I don't know that they'd be a Top 10 team in the state. Maya made a commitment to Indiana University in June of 2023.   Most Outstanding Newcomer: [player_tooltip player_id='567130' first='Gracyn' last='Gilliard'], 2026, 5-10 G/W, Center Grove H.S. - Center Grove put together a fantastic 2023-2024 season, but they lost several talented graduates to the diploma. They were still deep enough to have a winning season this year, but with Gracyn moving in over the Summer, they only get better. Gracyn spent her first two years at Munster High School, helping lead the Mustangs to 35 wins. Last year, she averaged 25.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 5.9 steals per game, plus she's only a handful of games away from reaching 1000 career points. She is strong, athletic, but also skilled and versatile. She can handle the ball and has good court vision, she can get downhill and finish through contact at the rim, plus her touch outside continues to improve. Her role might not be exactly the same for the Trojans, but she will certainly offer them an offensive boost.   . CLASS 4A ALL-STATE TEAMS   Like the awards above, this was another attempt to honor girls who could stand out in Class 4A during the 2024-2025 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it's at least easy to understand why each of the players listed below were selected to be honored. Disclaimer: Freshmen were not considered for the All-State teams, only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, however I have highlighted a few Freshmen in the Honorable Mention section. Freshmen will be included in the Postseason Awards in March, once they have had the opportunity to put in a full Varsity season.
